This is somewhat of a project revival rather than a thread revival..
(a brief introduction can be found here retrorides.proboards.com/thread/172230/all-super-full-jdm)
For those that tl;dr I'll give you the low down.
Bought in December 2013 whilst walking along the southbank. The car was advertised on a well known online auction site and was based in MALTA. I hand thought much about the logistics, all I knew was that I WOULD be buying it.
Bid placed, won, money transferred, flew back to Hanoi, delivery arranged, called rob0r in a panic as it was being left in a pub carpark in Colchester who saved the day.
This is how she looked once the stress died down
Not bad... apart from the horrid mirrors... painted black bumpers... land rover ride height... black tape down the side... the list goes on.
Then there was this to think about...
However, no curse word were given. I had myself an early 510 and that was all that mattered!
Since then I had flown back to the UK a few times and did a few bits on it but never as much as I had wanted. In 2015 I moved back to the UK, bought an engine, a gearbox, made some coilovers, bought several sets of wheels as I can never decide what I want and various other accessories, and then it stopped, mainly as I was sorting out family arrangements, moving house, more family stuff, buying THIS and so on.
A few weeks ago the decision was made to just pick it up and stick it in my lean to and just get the smeg on with it. I was am still am annoyed at myself it's taken this long but the reality is that life does get in the way of things and more importantly... I HAVE TOO MANY PROJECTS AND HAD LOST DIRECTION. That is something I have been sorting out and the fleet is being reduced.
Needless to say, inbetween working a full time job and being a fulltime parent of 2 infants I have begun on the 510 and here is where I'm up to.
My minuscule, ridiculously tight workspace. No I am not a contortionist. Yes my body aches!
The new and correct engine in place, the strut tops give a sneak peak of a later post.
What a view <3
Todays effort, gearbox in.
Getting the gearbox and engine in solo was a PITA!!! It's on uneven soft ground and words cannot explain how genuinely unpleasant the whole thing was to do.
Both are on brand new mounts. There are a few crud spots, mainly to the right of the gearbox tunnel (just make it out in the pic) and the front inner archs on the sill closing panel. I'll tackle the welding once it's all assembled.
The to do list is pretty mega, pretty much everything needs something. It is though a very solid and original car considering its age, not to mention infinitely cool.
