got a fresh rebuilt engine in my polo now , thinking drop the first lot of oil after 100 miles , then what ? 500 /1000 and then back to normal or what

Ask the engine builder. If its been built by yourself id get about 500 miles on it and do a filter and oil change but it would really depend on how its been used

Should be running in oil for 500 miles or longer, after that drop it & put in your normal/recommended brew. Run that for 1/2 the normal change interval dump & then normal changes.
Sometimes I have done a comp test at 500 to check the rings are bedded in. This happens in the early few miles. After that the ring bedding won't get any better. Also no excessive idling or low revs high load.
Always worked for the dozens of engines I've built.

I concur with porsche944 above When I rebuilt my Volkswagen ABF lump with new shells, rings, gaskets etc. I ran mineral oil for 500 miles (in reality this was driving from Kent to Wales 2 days after getting it MOT'ed and back on the road- the owners of the holiday cottage we stayed in wern;t overly impressed at me doing an oil change on their drive  ) Then a second change after about 3k miles, then carry on as normal. That engine has done over 100k miles since then and is still going strong. |

You need to vary the revs and stay away from the redline for about 500 miles. But it is more important to vary the load placed on the engine during the initial period as this is better for settling all the components down.
Change oil and filter and then again after normal driving about 3K later.
If you have a magnetic sump plug just check it for any swarf.
