Now that's what I call a mullet! Also known as a 'work at the front, party at the back' That film looks quite funny. I've been pressing on with the rust abatement which, as is often the case, leads from one unexpected new rust discovery to the next. I got the rhs rear spring seat dealt with and dropped nasty POR-15 type paint all over my face and in my hair, for that matted tramp hairdo. Next it's the inner arch rear left. Not as bad as lying squashed under the thing, can actually sit up and weld in comfort with arches.. Continuing the old Opel mood with this Opel Kadett E Caravan that I've seen around but parked right outside my house today so I snapped it. Piloted by an old dear - the condition is very good. Sheepskin seat covers etc. When I first moved to Germany in 2004 I had a 1986 one of these

Don't go poking around in those dubious looking corners.. I'm adding these pics so I'll feel better when I've dealt with it all. It's going to be lots of small patches I suppose. Found several 'icebergs' of filler which had been used to fix bits of mesh etc. to 'repair' holes. This rot is a result of the rear hatch drainage pipe not actually going anywhere but straight into the end of the sill. The 'rolled' arch was a rust hive. Someone needs a slap for this.. part of the rear valence cut out - all the way across - presumably cos of the brown stuff but then just left and bodged back together and all the items such as upper bumper mounts replaced with a huge attack of black sealant or silicone. Problem is that the lip ( arrowed ) is wafer thin with rust so not sure right now how I'm going to weld onto that.. even if I could get access behind it. A classic mesh based repair. Kwality!

I know it's been said before, but it must be way more effort to do it that way than properly in the first place.
A quick buzz with a welder v hours of pi55ing around with mesh/newspaper/expanding foam and filler? I know where I stand on that!

A quick buzz with a welder v hours of pi55ing around with mesh/newspaper/expanding foam and filler? I know where I stand on that! Unfortunately it's going to be a bit of a long buzz for me George! But stitch in time etc. would have probably been useful last time round. The Tigra has fallen to low/no status/value apart from a few fully blown money pits so I imagine that either people couldn't be bothered or didn't have the technology apart from a pot of filler. Student/girl car.. living in a flat no where to work on it. Still gonna get a slap... slaaaaagg! Also there isn't the culture of the backyard bodger.. ahem.. mechanic here. If you haven't got a diploma which says you can do it then you obviously can't do it! My neighbour once queried my qualifications after he saw weld sparks flying out from under my Citroen. I told him that if it was good enough for the TÜV inspectors I was probably able to do it. There's a lot of Tigras/Corsa Bs for sale without TÜV 'requiring some welding' Haha I know what 'some' means and mine has still got ticket to ride. They're all going in the bin son!

Got one hour today. Englebert phoned about the R21 ECU... jees what a carry on. So I had to drive another one round to him then I had approx 45mins. So I'm quite satisfied with the progress. Cut and shaped the arch piece from ye olde BX roof and got it tacked in. Rising up from the rust.

Thought so for some reason! Good job on the arch düdo, ever better so for incorporating some BX in the Tigra.

What was flat on the BX goes curvy on the Tigra! Sad to see the work & effort required but good to see the dedication, progress & quality.

Thanks melle. You didn't quite link my handle correctly so some user called ' d' ( who hasn't posted since 2008) will get a nudge! Forty five mins for an arch repair is too long so I've decided to stuff the holes with old socks reinforced with leftover tubes of bathroom sealant finished with a skim of plaster. Looks as though I might have some time tomorrow so I pedalled down to the hardware store just before it closed and bought a pile of fine cutting discs for the grinder ready to give the BX roof panel some new shapes. Thanks also 79cord. It's a bit of effort but I'm in too deep now. The wife was meant to be using it by now for her daily commute and the winter weather is slowly wrapping around us here. One eye is on the horizon - getting it into shape to carry more output!

Don't know what happened to the tag, noticed it after posting but when I tried editing my post I couldn't find a fault.

The day just.. evaporated. Had to go and get some new Argon. Served by the wonderfully named Herr Schwer - Mr Heavy - who was bogged down with the Saturday rush and amused me with his moaning. Then family stuff... But got down the barn for a couple of hours later Ron. Three more pieces afixed. The big recessed hole I made to carry the drainage tubes from 'above' - the mounting had rusted out and killed the sill. Going back to where Adam Opel intended Farewell you silly old sill Finally collected the original sill covers from Andy Opel tuner who had removed them complete with unbroken clips from his girlfriend's car ( to fit the recycled margerine tub variety) which was long ago sold. The margerine tub silver one was vaguely held onto the car with sealant looking like coils of spaghetti. The one designed by Opel has twelve mounting points. I quite liked the flat edge on the silver one but too shonky. Back to the 90s The cover will cover the rebuilt arch/sill. Won't see the effort .. but I know ..

It's suddenly got a bit parky.. there's snow on the hills. I've got some fur lined overalls designed for working in cold rooms but progress has been limited. I got the arch inside and out all welded up which was time consuming and not really that pretty in the end but solid. Now tackling the rear valance. I think this is a common problem on Tigras and a couple of years ago this panel was still available from Opel. Now there's only one available for sale in Holland for €400, below.. quite a few Tigra enthusiasts appear to be watching that but I'm building it up with BX roof (rapidly vanishing) pieces. It's that 'belt' piece across the middle with the holes in it.. working my way across Using the building site upstairs in our house as a spray booth for the sill covers. It's warm.. Changed the radiator as well as all the coolant just dripped away from the old one and the spare one that the previous owner gave me.. it's a spare but god knows for what? Last radiator I bought was in Tas for the Landcruiser which was quite a few AU$$$s so €25 wasn't too painful. Valeo 'classic' line made in China. Valeo have gone from France to Spain and now fully Oriental. Anyway, keeping at it with small attacks.

Working my way across the valance.. getting approx one hour every evening so it's a bit rushed and f-f-f-f-f-reezing in the barn. Just got to work faster to get warmed up! Youtube suggested this video might appeal to me. Can't think why? Lots of reconstituted margarine tubs on wheels ( some people have too much time on their hands), a Tigra batmobile (4:38) and some that are not bad.. with a bangin toon. Just got to explain to the wife that the Tigra won't be ready at the end of November cos I'm building the biggest spoiler in the world, once I've finished the Lambo doors.

It's the eye of the Tigra, it's the cream of the fight.. Onwards into darkness.. very low temps and short days.. pulled a big weldathon today and wrapped up all the areas.. switch the torch off for winter. It's meant to be 10° on Thursday so I hope I can get the 'products' out - rust treatment, primer, paint etc.

It was meant to be a mighty 11° but got up to around 7°. Bit borderline but needs must. Got the products out.. and beautified. Cheers 'pint symbol'

Thanks austinmorris1300. It will take some time so I'm keeping low down. Get the body straight-ish then the wife has it for winter to commute. Everyone here knows about time/cash constraints vs dreams.
