Hi everyone.
just looking for advise and help. Just ordered 2nd hand a pair of matching 45 dcoe carbs. First time having twin carbs
My engine over all> bottom end 2.0 standard high mileage, head has vernier and i think a fast road or race cam but i can't remember, but the tick over is lump and curse word. Would the twin 45's be ok for my engine after a rolling road set up?
Also Is the standard fuel pump ok? What do i do about the vacuum advance pipe on the distributor? i fitted a cheap electric ignition "acu spark kit".
anything to look out for while fitting them ect?
Thanks James

They can be down jetted to work but you will deffo need a new electric fuel pump and also a regulator (Preferably with a gauge) You won't however, see that much more power as they need a decent big valve head to work best. Your current can can't be that wild as you would need double springs etc for anything with much more than Fast Rd spec. From what you say, I would expect to see around 130-140 at the flywheel but it will sound the nuts!
PS... Use 40-50mm trumpets for best results

SO they wouldn't work with the mechanical fuel pump ? seems like cost is mounting up haha. i wouldn't even know where to start with fitting an electric fuel pump and regulator :/. from what i remember it only had single valve springs. and they have the trumpets attached, i just didn't know whether its best to have filters to prevent dirt ect? after the last rolling road session it made and still currently making 81bhp at the wheels :/ and 117bhp at the fly wheel from the print out which i though was really low.

With a bog std head that sounds about right to me. (High mileage) The key to power from a Pinto is all in the head and with compression. I used a Vulcan ultimax head which was awesome but expensive too. You might get it to run with the std pump but it you will be wasting your money on the dyno session as it will not give enough fuel for the top end. You need a Facet pump in the boot and a regulator with gauge mounted to the inner wing under the bonnet. Set the regulator to 2.5psi.
Std Pinto is approx 100bhp at the flywheel. A decent air filter, exhaust manifold and system should give an extra 10-15bhp. A can gives another 7-15bhp but only with a head skim really. Fit the Vulcan head and you'll see north of 160 if using a decent cam.
Oh, and filters?? Error no! Power zappers lol

I do have a 421 sportex if i can remember correctly and i have seen a few big valve heads for sale, with the stripping part not a worry, it's the putting it together with the timing that scares me and all the valves if i was ever to get one haha. I'll wate for the carbs to turn up first and go from there but i did speek to my dad the other day about stripping the head off as i got a feeling theres carbon on the vales. I thought it might of been better with the filters.. well the trumpets are with the carbs anyway, just hopefully they hit a nice musical note and not a fart sound haha

If you intend keeping the car running a Pinto, buying a new head from Vulcan would be the best investment you ever make. Even though it would cost about £700 for a stage 2 head (Both valves bigger) it releases the Pinto into proper power territory! We shaved 1.5sec off our 1/4 mile time with that mod alone!
