All monthly insurance policies use loans. They get the full amount, and you get the option of paying monthly. Best advice i can think of - put the policy on a different car, otherwise expect to hand over the £160.
Could also ring them up and try haggling, but doubt they'd be interested, as its the loan company you owe the money to.

That is how it works. Youre financing your policy. I don't see a problem. Insurance companies take a lot of stick, usually they deserve it, but this time I don't get it. Anyway, this was never going to be a good thread, why not post something cool or interesting? I'll go first.

That's terrible, your insurance industry over in the UK is ridiculous. In Australia, I've always paid car insurance monthly. If you cancel, they actually insist on refunding the unused portion of the month, even if it's only one day. I assume that there must be a law requiring this, as I once received a refund cheque for about $2 through the post from an online insurer when I sold my motorbike and cancelled the policy.

This is why they call the UK "Rip off Britain" because legislation so heavily favours commerce over the consumer.

I've just had the same issue with them, they wanted 4 pieces of written correspondence from utilities/council in the last 3 months, but I deal with all that online, only post I receive is junk mail. Took the policy out on 14 September to start on the 23, so I said I'd have to cancel. Thinking I was in the 14 day period I didn't think I'd get charged. Nope £50 they took after some proper loopholing of the 14 day period thing. Yet I've also just had to cancel Halifax Insurance as they couldn't cover my Vectra. I paid a £40 deposit and had 10 days cover before the diff went and they refunded me £34, definetly couldn't argue with that. I was warned about Fluxs terrible customer service so my own fault really.

Lego hotrod, time to raid the Lego Box!! I use Mr Flux and yeah sometimes he frustrates but most of the time he comes through and sorts out what others couldn't. At the end of the day they are a broker not an insurance company.

It does always work that way regardless of company, there is a bit of interest paid over the year too which is fair enough when they aren't getting the premium upfront. I didn't think it involved a proper credit check tbh, can't think of any other reason they would want utility bills though?

That's very community spirited of you. I come on here to look at amazing inspirational cars. When I'm not doing that I try to post them. I think others should do the same, its in the MO, fairly sure being sarcy isnt. I apologise for my low tolerance to threads about insurance. I think they should result in penance.

I think the only difference with Flux is that the finance is provided by a third party so you get separate paperwork instead of one big wadge of it.

I should have thought from the thread title it was obvious that it was not about cool cars - yet you still looked at it. Many members come here for advice which, fortunately, most other users are happy to give - and on a 'scale of sarcasm' your original post was way up there.

How was my post sarcastic? You are either delusional or you don't know what sarcastic means.
I think i need to put down the internet.
This forum would be better without these threads. That is all i was saying. Post some decent content.

The guy came here for help - you ridiculed his post and tried to belittle him presumably to make yourself look clever - you failed - but are obviously too self righteous to see it. Oh well, never mind Have a Volvo

Oh well, never mind Have a Volvo Actually the OP did go against the Modus Operandi of the forum and post up a thread that is verging on a rant. No cool pictures were given as an apology for the rant, just a way to get around the swear filters. Em wasn't being anti-community, more like he was quoting the rules of the place.

I took a classic policy out with them recently.
They made it very clear that if I went to pay monthly that I would have to have a credit check as its finance
Just payed it of in one as it was only 200 odd
But they did make it VERY clear that it was a finance agreement
