This is my '84 ((June 1983 build) e28 525e. I've owned her only a short while (June) but another classic has come up that I have been wanting for a while, so regrettably this is now for sale. Only done a few summer car shows with it.
She's in pretty fair condition for her age and the previous owner has attended to many of the usual e28 issues over the past year. Off the top of my head I can think of; timing belt and water pump, viscous fan clutch, upper control arms (quality TRW fitted), replacement (quiet) heater blower, four new Michelin Energy tires, new full exhaust, rear discs/pads. New rear axle and trailing arm bushes.
Also replaced most of the rubber boots and pipes in the vacuum system and the engine is running really nicely and delivers around 34mpg on a run. The instrument cluster has been change, but original one will go with the car. Petrol gauge not working (always reads full) There are no cracks on the dashboard. The interior is clean and dry, as is the boot. Only the drivers seat base shows any sign of wear, I have an undamaged replacement, but will need a good clean. There is a full small toolkit in good condition in the boot.
The body is in good condition, having benefited from new paint probably 10 -15 years ago. The rear arches were probably repaired at that time. The front wings are ok but will need replacement in the future. The inner sills and axle mountings have been repaired properly, and I have the hole in my bank account to prove it! The 14 inch bottle top alloys have been refurbished some years ago, and still look good.
This is a good example of an e28 eta (high torque low revving m20 with quite amazing fuel economy for the era) which could be used as an everyday car. It's not perfect, it is 32yrs old after all !! It's reasonably basic, with wind up windows and no ABS, but has the luxury of an electric sunroof! There's a serviceable circa mid 90's Pioneer cassette radio fitted, and everything is in good working condition with the exception of the wipers which are somewhat jerky on the intermittent sweep but work perfectly on slow and fast. I have replaced the exhaust rubber hangers and the top hose (thermostat to water pump) all genuine BMW.
The car is for sale for £2200 and MOTed until April 2017.
