Just won 4 wheels and tyres on ebay. They are only 175/70 x 13 on 5 inch rims. Collection would be a 6 hour round trip. Was going to get the seller to wrap each one in a bin-bag and arrange collection via parcel-to-go, but now noticed that wheels/tyres are on the prohibited list. Initially I thought this was a parcel-to-go quirk as the list is identical whichever courier service is chosen. However, having a checked a couple of the couriers own sites both wheels and tyres seem to come up on the banned list - though not really sure why.
I've had wheels/tyres delivered before and also new tyres without issue.....? What does everyone else do?
Thanks
Nick

I noticed this probably just over a year ago. I tried all sorts to dodge it, selecting other items and listing them as something else round. I can only assume it was due to them rolling about in the back of vans due to being stacked incorrectly.
I had used Shipley and there was a courier firm that deals specifically with automotive part shipping. I've also in the past had them put on a small pallet and shipped that way for just under £40.

If wheels and tyres are truly on courier 'banned' lists, then how are any of the online wheel and tyre companies going to get their product to their customers?
Taxi? Wishful thinking? Drone?

And why would wheels/tyres be "banned"?

Paisley Freight will do 4 wheel and tyres for only £32.99 including vat I've used them a few times for wheels and tyres. Recommended. I assume some companies are getting funny about them as an inflated tyre can certainly be considered a 'pressurised container', albeit less likely to give trouble than an aerosol or similar.

Thanks all -
They are on banned lists for virtually all the mainstream couriers. Parcel Force seems to be the one exception.
The two I've contacted (low level minions) just read off the list and say they are prohibited but have not the faintest idea why. Unhelpful.
Pack them up and they'll never know......

Thanks for that recommendation. Easy enough to let the tyre down. Most don't discriminate and also ban tyres only. Odd. Nick

It is rather odd, probably insurance related more than anything, but as to why the insurers don't like them, one can only speculate.

I can see* the argument that tyres on rims might have compressed air in them, but why would tyres without rims be banned? * seeing the argument isn't the same as agreeing with it

Probably been too many claims of damaged wheels to be able to justify the cost of insuring the transport of them.
Where are they located, Nick?

Sidcup.
Even a courier should struggle to damage a steel wheel wrapped in a thick rubber buffer.... you'd think!

Absolutely do NOT use Paisley Freight for anything.
The internet is full of stories of them royally destroying things, losing them, and their insurance policy terms are "Go Jump" and "Fat Chance".
