The Honda Super Cub in continuous manufacture since 1958 with production surpassing 60 million in 2008, and 87 million in 2014, the Super Cub is the most produced motor vehicle in history. But as good as it is i don't want to see the Honda Cub, because they're just too damn expensive to get hold of these days. I want to see the alternatives, i'm sure that Honda were not the only ones to build a bike that looked like this? Who else built them, what did they look like, and can you get a chinese knockoff copy of one cheaply today? Yeah yeah, but i want to meet nice people on other manufacturers bikes... Show me your Honda Cub alternatives!

This is going to end up in Readers Other Mods when I get to a proper computer rather than this mobile. However I know VIP and @bryn both have an interest in these

Honda Cubs aren't expensive if you know where to look. A few hundred pounds will get you a decent running example if you avoid the idiots putting 'scene' tax onto them. There is a company selling brand new Cub clones for £795 but so have no idea of that is a registered OTR price or its left up to you to MOT and register it. Obviously without the relevant certification of EU compliance youd have to go down the bike IVA route. www.minibikecraze.co.uk/shop/bikes/cub-copy-50cc-black/

Bridgestone also marketed some of these, my dad had a black and white Bridgestone 70 that he loved. When something broke there were no parts available for them though so he swapped a Suzuki 125 on it.

My grandad let me have his Yamaha townmate (t80) when he gave up riding, It's from the vein as the Honda cub but is shaft drive instead (but still uses a 4 speed semi auto gearbox) it was damn good if a little slow (max speed around 40mph) when I worked out my fuel consumption it was around 150mpg! Unfortunatly I passed it on after a Nasty bike accident when I gave up riding. Before I was born my other grandad had a Yamaha v80 which he used to commute on, 2 stroke 80cc they still occasionally come up For a while I fancied a ct110 postie bike clone made by jailing, but I haven't seen them for a while now,

Also... monkeybikes.co.uk used to import the cub 50 from Japan, even after they stopped selling the c50 range in the U.K., unfortunatly monkeybike.co.uk no longer seem to be a valid website. As for Chinese clones, a quick look on eBay revealed www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152141442449Sym Symba, looks ok and cheaper new than a second hand c90

I have one! It cost me very little in the grand scheme of things, there's a link in my sig below.
'Riders super cub' seem to be reasonable quality...
tbh if you were to buy a non-honda, unless it's a clone, parts are so much harder to come by that it's worth buying a Honda (or Honda based) one.
The days of £20 cubs are long gone, but there are still a few around for 2-300.
Keep looking!
