The funny thing is that mobile phone screen resolutions are getting better all the time, and are better than a desktop in a lot of cases. I'd rather have the full forum view, than a hacked about version with huge buttons and not a lot on it. For sure, I think there is a middle ground. My main problem for my mobile at least is the problem of having an area I can scroll up and down without accidently clicking into a forum or post. Also clicking into pages is fiddly. What I'd like is an experience which scales nicely with the device/screen, which is really all I'll be able to have as I can only fiddle with styling on different devices rather than structure of page elements On the subject of DriveTribe I notice that "bumps" are likes. I guess it is like a community instagram thing in some ways? Which doesn't give it much advantage over Groups on facebook, other than maybe the way the facebook algorithm hides stuff from users often it seems.

Thats the only time I have to really zoom in on a page on mobile. On random misclicks my worst are hitting the like button on here or clicking on peoples photobucket links (PLEASE DEAR GOD PEOPLE REMOVE THE CLICK THROUGH LINK) which is not a forum issue.

Either way, just joined RR on DTribes - member 41. Can I ask a question to you, and any of the 40 others who have joined the RR Drivetribe thing? - Why do it? On RR you get all the content and interaction from fellow members already, what does a RR tribe on DriveTribe give you that you don't already have? I'm not being narky, genuinely curious why anyone would bother. Ta. I did it to make it public/on the off chance I would use it. I havent actually been back on it since it launched.

I really enjoy RR and feel guilty that since I've found the site, I haven't really built anything retro (an Ariel Atom and currently messing with a modern XK Jag) my daily (Suby STi for the frozen Midwest -27F for a high today and getting colder) is just over a year old now and really want to get back to a RR. I just wanted to support the group here. Also DTribe has had a few funny things on it related to Grand Tour, so melding the two into one I guess. I'm not sure it was a conscious 'let's do this' and tbh I've only been on DTribe twice now. Once when I registered and once when I followed the RR link. I did find it funny though still haven't worked out how to see all the comments etc. For me, I have been to this site three times more often in the same time. But I'm sure I'll have another look back at DTribe when I'm shopping with the wife or some other time when I'm trying to kill an extended period of time. So not a main visit site, but something else to look at when I've read the new stuff on my usual forums.

I'm probably being daft, but am I right that I can only sign in if I have a Facebook account? If so it's not something I can join May have missed some info but just scrolling through threads on RR on my phone whilst my OH watches masterchef on iplayer!

If so it's not something I can join May have missed some info but just scrolling through threads on RR on my phone whilst my OH watches masterchef on iplayer! Yeah, seems to be. Bit curse word isn't it? I have a facebook account, but being railroaded into using it makes me suspect that it has ulterior motives. I haven't even clicked it yet to see which permissions it needs from facebook (fb restricted on work pc), but I might do it through a facebook "burner" account (those are seeming to be more useful all the time) to see what it's all about, and to support the RR section on there. ** Unsolicited advice below ** You suffer from the problem a lot of forums suffer from, you've got so many sections. ^^ This. There's a fair few forums that I don't go on because of this (curse word on heads, capri power, old skool ford, turbosport...). A simple re-shuffle and I'd probably browse some of those more regularly, but I cba to wade through each section.

I like forums because they're full of people capable of at least some level of self-discipline. They have made a conscious decision to search out a community and genre that interests them and exercised their intellect to contribute something to that medium... hopefully even something that they've given enough thought to that they might reasonably expect it to become semi-permanent without causing them to squirm from embarrassment at every resurfacing of their contribution. Who knows, it might even prove informative or invaluable to other like-minded individuals, and forums by their nature offer immediate accessibility to that content. Remember what a chore it was fast-forwarding through a mix-tape someone had done you to get to the one decent track, elusively hidden away somewhere in the limbo of The Middle!? The horror... then remember the sheer unadulterated joy that came with the invention of the CD and the ability to shoot straight to the decent part without having to listen to twenty minutes of random synth noise and bleep-boops (King Crimson, I'm talkin' to you). Forums, in short, are great because they're made by people who give a damn for people who can be bothered. Now, social media, on the other hand. IT'S JUST NOISE. No-one's listening to you. They're all stuck firmly on transmit, all shouting endlessly for their chance to be the Next Big Trending Phenomena. It is the opposite of exlusive. It's the opposite of disciplined, or rational, or informative. It is ephemeral, which is why people need to scream the top of their voices ALL THE TIME because if you fall off the page you might as well not exist any more. This means you can say what you like, no matter how biased, insulting, irrelevant, plain wrong or downright bigoted because a) no-one's listening to you anyway and b) even if they were, it'll be gone forever this time tomorrow. I don't want to be exposed to a barrage of ill-conceived, ill-informed and downright ill stream of consciousness from randoms who I'd go out of my way to avoid sitting next to on the bus. I don't feel the need to constantly validate my existence through a tirade of idiocy compressed into 140 characters. Hell is other people, as ascribed to Voltaire. And he ought to know, he was French. But hey, if you've got a personal corner of Hell reserved on the internet, then you may as well use it to harvest vast amounts of personal information from the captives, get the slightly more erudite ones to create a huge empire of free content for you to use as you see fit, and then sell advertising to fools before they can escape Y'see? See how it works? DrivelTribe? I'd rather curl out a massive brown trout into my hands and clap, frankly Errrrrm... and in case that might come across as slightly negative, have a photo of a vintage car thing and a kitten. Two of the staples of the internet

luckyseven you've hit the nail on the head there. I've not been as active on this forum (or any other) for a while but I'm starting to come back more frequently because there really is nothing like a top quality forum such as RR for relevant content. Facebook and Instagram are content black holes. I dare say Drivetribe will be the same and I'm sure the algorithm will make sure I see the "most relevant" content first ("most relevant" being the paid content) Also RR on mobile seems fine for me (Android with Firefox browser). Not as accessible as on the laptop but that's just a matter of screen real-estate I suppose.

luckyseven beautifully put, and I agree 100%. I'm on three car related forums, 2 Dedicated Range Rover ones and here. The first two are obviously a source of specific technical stuff and here because it fulfils all my other motoring needs. Nothing more is necessary. I won't be looking elsewhere. I detest social media with a passion (although I do have an irregularly updated Twitter account as another means of being contacted about work) it's generally vacuous, puerile and all about ME. As is rightly pointed out, nobody's listening, their all too busy shouting hysterically. The hours my two waste on Facebook is frightening, and the internet is now switched off at 9pm. Found this the other day when I was looking for pictures focusing on addiction. I think it's appropriate...

If that's is your experience of social Media I.e. Facebook, I honestly don't think you're using it correctly. Granted it is generally a shallower experience than a forum, but that doesn't mean it isn't rewarding if you understand how to get it to show you what you want.

I tried posting a reply yesterday but something went wrong. Oops! DriveTribe? No thanks. I had a look* from a laptop but couldn't find anything other than a front page. Tried again from a tablet and got the same. * Guess it's because I don't use FB so am excluded from DT? The funny thing is that mobile phone screen resolutions are getting better all the time, and are better than a desktop in a lot of cases. I'd rather have the full forum view, than a hacked about version with huge buttons and not a lot on it. Size matters I used to work for at a place that had a Japaneses parent company. The new tech that Japanese staff brought with them after their trips back home was always impresive & tiny ! A lot doesn't sell in Europe as "we" (Europeans) are big folk with fat fingers - so can't cope with miniaturised button on tiny phones and gadgets. Tiny high-resolution screens are amazing technology, but many folk prefer larger screens to save straining their eyes (or because their eyes struggle to focus on tiny screens)
