So I went on Drivetribe in hope that someone wouldn't take Retro Rides ... but someone already had because DT don't really give a toss about anything. So I set this up : drivetribe.com/t/I0U-kyssRa-Lu77kTkfJhA/ShwAcy8mSZ2QHqeadom0lQit looks like Instagram, but with less people. Join the tribe if you wanna... I'll post up some stuff occasionally, you can too.... or you know, use instagram and this forum

It may take off, I've not seen the Unique Selling Point of it yet, but maybe that happens when you have more people in your tribe?! I dunno.

I tried it, seems like an ugly Facebook full of cars. Which my actual Facebook already is.

I think it is pretty much a facebook of cars. Seems like at the moment it's just everyone promoting their own stuff on other peoples pages!
I was hoping it would be like a one-stop-shop for all car related blogs, with decent, interesting posts. There is some of that at the moment, but not alot.
Also, I can't get the link to work!

Personally, I think they got the angle of approach wrong, but I'll not explain why or how, because A) I do this stuff for a living so they'd need to pay me those big bucks, and B) maybe I'll find a spare week or two and code up an alternative done more correctly

Joined the RR tribe.
I think it has potential however when they spin up the advertising so it generates revenue it will be interesting. They've poached a lot of big name Journos from the print media and have invested $millions. A few people are taking quite a big gamble.
It'll never replace forums though. much like facebook won't. Those sorts of social media sites are just no good as a technical searchable resource.

One more member and we can go "public" ! ... Yeah the journo thing is interesting considering there is already at least one disgruntled person out there : photofeature.co.uk/drivetribe-an-open-letter/It feels a bit like Ello to me, which is pretty cool in its own way, but just hasn't happened exactly.

I admit I'm an amateur when it comes to social media - but unless I'm missing something, I don't really need Drive Tribe. Mainly because I already have this place - and the rest of the Internet...
It's being set up for people who want to log in to one place and wait to be shown some interesting pictures and videos. "There you go, see you tomorrow..."
The whole beauty of looking for stuff yourself, is the bits you stumble across on the journey - often better than the item you were originally searching for. In the olden days - before the inter web it was called research and involved thumbing through piles and piles of magazines, books and brochures and losing hours to the fun of previously undiscovered articles.
I enjoy watching the three old fellas on the TV and will probably get Grand Tour online, but I don't need to get lazy with my hobby.

I signed up a few days ago, struggling with the format of it.
I find the pics hard work as they don't display until clicked and you cannot do any of the editing to the pic like you can with instagram.
The stats usually say 0 (such as bump, followers and following) when they are not 0 when you click them.
Having to get members before going public is also proving difficult for me

at the moment it's just a content harvesting exercise.....content generates traffic.....once they have loads of enthusiasts contributing content for free they will introduce advertising and rake in the money from the click throughs.

I followed a link to that site the other day, couldn't find any description of what the site is about, why, how, what it hopes to achieve, etc. All they had was a rather ambiguous quote from Clarkson, comparing it to a porn site.
If they can't be bothered to explain the point of their own website, I'm not going to go through the bother of using it.

Anyone tried wheelwell.com? Seems a bit more like 'our' sort of thing. As I am not a facebook user looks like I will not be joining the tribe.... P.

ive seen a few rather unhappy tweets about Photo's being used without permissions etc, i think theres plenty of sources online already for automotive Content, although i don't get the idea of it, Also if you need to sign up via facebook that would put me of straight away although I'm on both twitter & Facebook Just because we need Some Retro Content:

I've not looked at it yet but wonder why anywhere else is needed. A lot of the older style forums have died a death due to bookface. Getting pictures onto forums is always a pain so I can understand why other formats have become popular. I experimented with a Volvo bookface page and members set up a gallery page to put build threads of sorts in which helped keep things together, otherwise all the information gets lost after a day or so

I don't really see what it's trying to achieve tbh. It's aimed fairly squarely at the piston heads market of 'general car guy' rather than being particularly specialist in any way, so seems to have no USP. Stupid thing is it will probably become a success because of those pushing it, the money behind it, and the laziness of its users. The sort of people who need to be shown something rather than those who find it for themselves, I.E. Television watchers rather than the more traditional Internet researcher.
Personally I think forums are safe for a while, purely because of build threads. No other format or platform can do them as throughly and concisely.

I had a quick look but to be honest its not for me. I waste too much time on the internet already without adding to it with drivetribe. I'll just stick to here, farcebook, and ebay!

All they had was a rather ambiguous quote from Clarkson, comparing it to a porn site. Yes, that put me right off. Don't get me wrong, I am aware of such sites and may have visited them on occasion, but I don't need that to infiltrate my car hobby and it just makes it all sound a bit 'laaaaad'.
