Can we have a most anticipated build award again? I like that award! I'm nominating in that category even if it's not a category because I'm a bit of a rebel* and the benevolent dictator HoTWire sometimes needs a little bit of a revolution to see the light..... I also like that award on a huge number of levels but mainly because it recognises some builds that have not yet arrived at complete car status. I joined this forum in 2006 mainly as a result of being linked to one build (and no it wasn't a Monza although it was an Opel) - it's still not finished but I have hope that one day it will be and it can shake of the kiss of death of being nominated several times for most anticipated. Note* I'm actually not a rebel at all, I feel strongly about things and I tend to be a bit of a terrier with a bone - don't ever let go till I get the result I'm after.

No problem at all - what struck me after was you'd worked out how to tag James @sweetpeajh yet his forum name Sweetpea is different/changed Just changed that as well, using sweetpeajh. There also appears to be a forum member called sweetpea, with a small 's', so I was tagging the wrong one! Also now got Blown_Imp to read as Blown_Imp as well. Getting the hang of this now!

Also now got Blown_Imp to read as Blown_Imp as well. Getting the hang of this now! There is also another way as well You can name a user without tagging So @blownimp Equals a tagged Blown_Imp and Blown_Imp Equals a not tagged Blown_ImpJust as georgeb Equals a not tagged georgebIf you quote the post to inspect the code you will see the forum softwhare tweaks the end result but the lines in code is what you enter Of course not taggoing you was pointless as in quoting your post you got a notification anyway - but you only got told I quoted you not that I tagged you....... Quite interesting the code usage but I do believe I am way off topic

If it's any consolation georgeb - the rest of the brake parts are coming tommorow, the brakes will be in at the weekend, and then the next two weeks are earmarked for rubbing it down and painting it

Bumping this back up, just take 10 minutes out of your day to have a think on these and make sure the people that have made your year a little bit better by providing good things get a bit of recognition.

Right then - seeing as the nominations are coming in steadily, I'll nominate some myself; Favourite Thread Of The Year - has to be georgeb and his Letter From Manilla thread - keeps me enthralled and entertained, and for me is one of the most interesting threads on the whole of RR. Forum User of the Year - tough one to call as there are a lot of helpful and friendly people on here (and meet many at the Gathering every year, and still don't know who they are..!) As such, I will nominate HoTWire due to the fact RR probably wouldn't be here if he hadn't started the ball rolling and kept things updated. (For balance, I would nominate the whole Admin Team who keep things running smoothly on here, but I can't list everyone as I don't know who they all are.....). Car Of The Year - I will nominate RetroWarwicK and his Covin Peetle Borker. I've always has a soft spot for these, and given my recent experiences in fibreglass work on my old Midget, I do have a bit of a thing for it (and being as i can't weld for toffee, 'glassing is something I'm pleased i can actually do!). Readers Other Mod Of The Year - has to be LowStandards and his 390cc Batricar. Having seen this during creation and also ridden held on for dear life to this around the camp site this year, I can agree it is just as nuts as it looks. Possibly a little better on the smooth stuff, but on a bumpy campsite it is properly terrifying!

The good thing about this thread is that I can use it as an index page to catch up on stuff I've missed.

Whilst I remember, because I forgot last year I'm nominated guz .. who quietly reports stuff in our for sale section that needs titles amending or moving etc. etc. He has been doing it for the last couple of years and I keep forgetting to give him a nod and a thank you Still not sure what the out come of this will be, I don't think voting is the way forwards. I'll definitely build a nice easy to read thread based on the nominations so people can catch up on things they missed. I'd like more please!! as bstardchild has observed I didn't put in a Most Anticipated however I'm happy to have those added in if people want to nominate in that category. My nominations list for that would be about 20 cars at the moment haha

OK after some editing time Firstly I have one self-imposed rule I try not to nominate threads I’ve nominated before - one of the criticisms of these types of threads is that they are “mates back scratching” and I really want to go out of my way to put the point across that they aren’t and shouldn’t be – I don’t personally know any of those I’ve nominated I just follow the threads and enjoy them immensely and that’s why I’ve nominated them. I would like it if more forum members contributed to these nomination threads and I actually think that when members do comprehensive posts with clever links and embedded pictures it’s actually self-defeating as it can put off people from nominations – I do this because of several reasons 1. I’m a bit OCD 2. I like my contributions to be good and easily read 3. I have some sympathy for HoTWire and the work he has to do to put the voting threads together (having helped with the odd thread in the past) and it helps when people make an effort to link to threads But none of that matters just name the threads or people and that's plenty good enough Most Anticipated Car of 2017 (AKA Kiss of Death) Nomination 1. 1982 Lada Project by @vagvaz So this thread started in May 2016 (work might have been happening for quite a while before that) and it’s pretty impressive work but it doesn’t get bumped up the board very often (although when the OP posts updates they are pretty comprehensive) it’s a built not bought thread with OP doing pretty much everything himself and I like threads like that. If this doesn’t wet your appetite nothing will……. Nomination 21978 Opel Kadett Project by countvauxalot Been following this thread since 2011 and whilst it’s had a few changes of direction (started as a 16V turbo build but has morphed into a Lexus V8 conversion) the OP has kept plodding away – again like the Lada it’s a built not bought thread with OP doing pretty much everything himself and I like threads like that – I like them a lot. Nomination 3 1967 Honda S800 F20c by Bozwell I’m really hoping this gets finished in 2017 been following it for yonks and it’s a lovely recipe that’s coming nicely to the boil – Tiny classic Honda that I’d never heard of with a S2000 heart transplant and a heap of really nice work in both metal and glass Money shot Favourite thread of the yearNow this is a tough one for me – real tough because there have been a few very good threads and I’m torn Nomination 1USA Roadtrip thread by grizz I’m a bit of a redneck and I love Nascar so any racecar shots get my interest – rest of the trip was good to follow….. Nomination 2Japan Roadtrip by quadrifoglio When you see a picture like this you know the rest are going to be worth looking at Nomination 3 And of course life on an island by georgeb How the other half live Readers Other Mod of the yearNomination 1I do love a good garage/workshop build by pauloliver I’d love a space like this – pig shed to usable workspace and try not to fill it with old cars Nomination 2Now this is where I stray slightly to one side of the line – in fact I cross it with both feet The winner of the kiss of death award in last year is my nomination for readers other mod of the year – how come you may say? Remember my rule? It’s That RX-2 Thread - which has very little pictures of a car all year but lots of great stuff by @johnnybravo And because there is so little of the car shown I’ll do two pictures From this To this In three pages – Frankly bonkers – who the bloody heck makes their own crankshaft for a triple rotary engine…………… Car of the yearLifelong “Opel Fruit” and my car of the year is a this one Why – because it drove the Gathering – got ragged up the hill – sounded great – broke it’s diff and then as a result of an announcement on the tannoy got fixed on the Sunday evening in the paddock and driven home…… And finally Forum Person of the yearI can’t name one single person but anyone who came to the Gathering – ran their car up the hill, or helped to make the best show of the year even better by just being there gets my vote and my thanks.

This is never going to be easy.
Firstly, thank you for all he mentions of my name and various comments, much appreciated.
I have not been as focussed this year as I normally am, at least not reading as much as I usually do, so I am sure there are people and threads I will have missed. I often read threads but do not add any comments, as I really cannot think of anything of value to add, though I desperately want to.
Guys like JohnnyBravo, Nalesutol, Grenade are absolute magicians and alchemists. Having gone so deep into the DNA of their builds and craft. Some with science and some with sheer drive to get stuff done. Sharing knowledge, making it understandable for us mere mortals.
Then there are guys like Bstarchild, Elwoody GeorgeB and Pistonpopper and again many others, who are always supportive, add knowledge, info, research to threads, making it feel like a true community of friends on here.
How do you narrow it down to just a few mentions. My mentions here are 100% unfair because for every mention we all know there are going to be at least another 5 people or threads who deserve to be listed.
Favourite thread of the year
JohnnyBravo's Mazda rebuild engineering 101 thread as I keep looking in every day, repeatedly.
Forum user of the year
ElWoody - How can one person be selected, every contributor is worthy if they make a worthy contribution, some of us talk a lot more than others.
Car of the year
Nissan Elgrand Rider. By Fresh and Minty, Again, some of the small simple builds are equally worthy, but I have enjoyed the evolution of this car and find myself wanting it.
Readers Other Mod of the year
Kids Mini Bin truck. By KevBarlas. This to me is another example of an amazing build that has had less than 1000 views, but the motivation, craftsmanship, like his previous resto, are totally overlooked as he just quietly gets on with stuff, no fanfare or global fame. Just graft.
So these are my selections.
And they are totally not the only worthy nominees, wish we had more options.
