Brainstorming this afternoon, V6 engines,
Questions were what is a small, lightweight, tuneable, revvy, reasonably powerful, and can be converted to RWD v6 engine......

Omega quad cam V6, short, light powerful and already RWD. Manual options. Plus V6 Omega donor cars are cheap as chips right now! Wiring is a bit of a sod though.
And of course the ever popular Cosworth V6 from the Granada. Not so easy to get mind and probably already been thrashed stupid!

and the jag v6 is basically a ford v6, the same as the one Noble based their turbo version on.....

That is mad! my suggestions would have been Jag AJv6, Ford duratec v6, Vauxhall ecotec v6, Ford Cosworth v6 or something Japanese perhaps- Nissan vq V6?

not many v6's are that small, most are quite bulky things I think.
VQ35 comes in rwd, quite a variety of power levels dependent on donor, road cars anything from 240 to 300 bhp, race variants up to 480 bhp.

Here in New Zealand the go to would probably be the 3.8 litre V6 from a Holden Commodore. Rear drive already and goes pretty hard in a Commie so will go even harder in anything small. What Opel/Vauxhall has that, if any, I wouldn't know.

What Opel/Vauxhall has that, if any, I wouldn't know. The Omega and it's predecessors the Carlton and Senator are the euro equivalent to a Commodore. Sadly over here the biggest lump you can get is the 3.2 litre V6. But it is mostly alloy and has 4 cams, 24 valves and EFi with 217bhp from the box so it's still fairly quick.

That sounds like the 3.6 V6 as used in the current Commodore. I was thinking of the 3.8 used in the older ones.

Another member has an HB Viva with some sort of Mazda V6 in it. Should think the conversion was fairly involved though. I'm ready to get shot down in flames but I believe the Ford Duratec and hence the Jaguar AJ-V6 are originally a Mazda design.

Not got any experience with the 4 litre but know the 2.8's and 2.9's well and the problem with those is whilst being pretty compact they weigh about the same as an elephant and don't like being revved all that much, they're not all that powerful by todays standards either. Lots and lots of low down torque is the Colognes party piece however.

Torque curve of the 4 litre cologne certainly looks impressive. I must admit the main reason I mentioned it was due to being offered a cheap one locally, and have half seriously considered fitting it into my 110.
I might buy it either way, from what I've read they seem a very robust and long lived engine, dare I say it a better option than a standard 3.5 or 3.9 Rover V8 if you wanted a fairly large capacity petrol engine, particularly for a Land Rover or similar.

I believe the Mazda v6 used in the viva was a KL v6 though which can be made to fit up to the mx5 gearbox, bit different to the duratec v6 which followed 170hp I think in UK mx6 and ford probe form, a mate of mine is currently fitting one in a caterham style kit car and there are kits to fit them to mx5s so they must be pretty compact!
