My fiancé's dad has died. He has left a BMW E30 in the family. It's F reg 318 auto and it's a 2 door. I haven't seen it in person, but I've seen photos and it looks very tidy. He was a mechanic for over 40 years and he always kept his vehicles in top order so it should be a good example..
Could anyone let me know what sort of price this car is worth so the family can sell it? There's a chance I could buy it from the family which I'm considering, but I'm not sure of its value.

Being a 1.8 and the auto box will hamper its value, so it won't make the big numbers you see some e30's advertised for these days.
Condition is everything of course. My guess would be around 1-1.5k if it's just 'ok' but not rotten, up to around 2.5k tops if it's low mileage and near immaculate.
What does everyone else think?

I would probably be inclined to agree with the above despite having pretty much no BMW knowledge.
The 2 door E30 seems to be appreciating in value. It obviously won't demand the same price as a 325 M sport but people are pretty intent now days on making vehicles their own and it may well be purchased by an enthusiast with a proffered engine ready to go in.
Best bet is to get some photos up.

I'm hoping I'll be able to have a proper look at it soon. It's locked in the garage where he used to work. My fiancé has been told in his will she has been left his 2 BMW motorbikes which are also in the garage so when we go to get them I can have a look at the car. In the meantime I'm waiting on the family getting back to me with a rough idea of what they want for the car.

I should add, what I want to do is buy the car for myself. The money from the car will go to my fiancé's brother who lives in Australia. So I want to give them a fair price for it.

If it's in good nick around £1500-2000 would be a fair price. The auto box reduces it's value hugely. If it was a manual it'd fetch a grand more. I wanted an e30 but soon realised they had become out of my price range for a manual!

Looks an honest car, looks like the rear arches are in fair shape, which is always one of the main areas they tend to go. Good colour too. Sounds like a fair deal all round!

It's got mot till September next year and only has 78k on the clock. We've had a lot of chats this week and have decided to buy it.

I managed to get to the garage on my lunch break yesterday for a look. It's been stood 2 months since her dad ended up in hospital. The battery was flat but it fired straight up on jump leads first turn of the key. The engine sounds spot on. I've had a good look around the car, it's not quite as nice as I was expecting, there's a few bits around the arches that need done longterm. The interior is lovely. I wasn't sure if it would have power steering but it does, which pleased me as I don't like cars without it.
I'm just sorting out the money for it and I should have it here next week.
