Hello once again RetroRides
As the title really.
In my block of garages someone's suffered the unfortunate fate of having their garage broken into. There seems to have been a spree of it locally. I phoned the letting agent and informed them that it had been broke into and to inform the owner and I have done so every week since about November time and the garage has not been repaired. It has just sat there with the door open.
Initially I thought there was a pile of rubble in the garage with a tarp over the top and I have left well enough alone.
Today I poped into my garage and the tarp has moved revealing that the pile of rubble is actually a vehicle and now I want to know what it is but all that can be seen around the tarp is the registration number.
I have entered the registration on an insurance site and it hasn't come back as being recognised. How can we obtain details, purely to satisfy my curiosity as to what the vehicle is.
The reg is 11 UKO and it's blue from what I can see.
Other vehicle theft and criminal activity in the very immediate area makes me rather concerned for the fate of the vehicle, however numerous attempts to have this done do not seem to have been successful.
Thanks for any help.

It's a blue 1976 MGB apparently. Would a call to the local Police Station be worth while ? Perhaps they could contact the owner, other than that you could report it as an abandoned vehicle and the DVLA might contact the owner.

Thanks chaps. MGB sounds about right now from the very little that I can see.
Untaxed since "88?!? To be honest the car actually appears to be in very good condition from what I can see. Although that's not a lot.

Make - Mg Model - B Body - Convertible Colour - Blue Engine Size - 1798 Letting agent should have records regarding tenant but after time these things can get misfiled/lost or the details they hold become out of date.
A similar thing occurred a few years back when a Dutton surfaced in a lockup that was due for demolition. The letting agent contacted me and I put him in touch with the last recorded keeper on our club records, let them sort it out. The letting agent ended up buying the car and starting the restoration by all accounts.

If its in a rented or owned lock up then its not abandoned so the DVLA wouldn't be interested nor would the police. it not classed as untaxed as its been off the road before SORN as required.

I dare say you are right, there is always a chance a helpful policeman might want to help as I would imagine it will only be a while before someone either nicks it of it gets vandalised. The owners club might be worth a try though

The owners club might be worth a try though Unfortunately gone are they days where a helpful policeman can access the registered keepers details without a legitimate reason as all searches are logged and it's job threatening if they abuse the system. AFAIK in this case there wouldn't be a valid reason for an officer to request the information.

I am trying to use the DVLC site to lookup details of a tractor I have just bought. It looks like the DVLC site requires registration number and make but it does not recognise the make of the tractor even though I have tried a couple of variations.
Is there a site where I can enter just the registration number and it tells me what make it is? Sounds very similar question to the MG in the lockup.
Thanks Iain

yes there's a few free apps, however they only work if there's recent activity on the computer databases for that registration, if theyve dropped off the dvla online system then nothing will work other than calling the dvla up.

Little bit of an update here.
Car is still there, numerous calls and the garage is still not secured. Wondering if searching an owners club may be a viable option.

Just put in the reg and it tells you the make, model, engine size, fuel type, etc totalcarcheck.co.uk/

move the car into your lock up put a note with your number in the old lock up and close the door, don't mention what you have removed just that you have removed something for safer keeping please contact for safe return wait a year apply for log book or then contact the letting agent saying you would like to rent the now empty lock up the chance of money might get the letting agent to pull his finger out and or spur the actual renter into surfacing.
