Just wandering where you get your love for cars from, mine comes from my late father who back in the 1950/60/70s had his own business, he was a designer engineer and was well known around Manchester and the motoring world. He raced saloon car and single seater and all his cars were home built, even the banded wheels.hope you enjoy the photos and would love to hear your stories.pictures include his mini, midget, minor, single seater, vw flatbed,, not sure of the tow car, think it's an Austin.the minor has a 3.8 jaguar engine .. Ps, remember playing in the mini as a kid until the scrap man picked it up, and note he was racing on the 12 th of June and I was born on the 15th. Passion first.

My Dad is into cars so must have got it from him at an early age. I honestly can't remember not being obsessed with cars, my first Scalextric is a vivid childhood memory!

My old man, if he was out washing his car I was out washing my pedal car, playing scalextric, collecting hotwheels or going car shows, it definitely rubbed off.

I haven't the faintest idea!
Nobody in my family was into cars, and throughout my who school life none of my friends were either. I started off as a two year old by dragging my Mum around the town centre car park getting her to read the boot badges for me! I even remember my Dad going for lessons and passing his test when I was four years old.
I think I have a genetic defect....

Grew up with cars. My dad was racing and going to classic car shows when i was born. My weekends growing up were a mixture of classic car shows, country fairs, steam fairs, autojumbles, cruises, race meetings. It was a damn good time. Cheers dad. RiP

Dad for me too, with a little bit of uncle. Dad has always been into cars (mainly Fords) and has always been in the motortrade. Family transport was always fast Fords, ST Mondeos and Sierra Sapphire Cosworth being the highlights. My uncle always had interesting stuff, mainly Lotus' and old British stuff. I vividly remember being taken out in his S1 Exige, what a badass car! This has been reinforced later in life by my longest friend and I passing our driving tests within 10 minutes of each other and spending hours in our respective cars in our late teens.

I suspect like many it was my dad that got me interested. My granddad had garages in Cork, (Ireland for those that don't know), and my dad helped out from the age of 6. My dad served in the RAF initially as ground crew but became air engineer on Shackletons, when he left the RAF he became a flight engineer with Monarch initially flying Bristol Britannia and finished on Boeing 720B. Because he had us four kids he always worked on his own cars. I recall Zodiacs, Jag Mk2 , Rover P5B etc etc. I used to 'help' him as a kid and when i got into bikes i learned everything you need to know about 2 stroke engines and how easy they are to blow up and rebuild...... I have since always worked on my own stuff, car and bike, as far as possible mainly due to have too many kids and no funds myself

As a new born baby, the only way my parents could get me to sleep was to take me out in the car, my Dad claimed that he spent hours driving me around at night!

I was going to say my Dad but although he had some interesting cars as I was growing up, including two British Racing Green Montego estates, one straight after the other, a Cavalier sri and his last interesting car which was an 306 gti he isn't really 'into' cars as such.
He officially gave up when he bought a diesel VW Bora. yawn.
I reckon more likely was the plethora of TV shows and movies around when I was growing up with cars and car chases, all the yank staples plus The professionals, The sweeney, The italian job, all the Bond movies and the like.
Who knows? but it's an affliction that's here to stay.

dad and grandad, as they rebuilt an old ford thames in the garage when i was a kid, I used to get absolutly filthy doing (jobs) to help them lol, although they were really into m,bikes, at race meetings they used to have a game with me just listening to bikes as they went past could i tell them which engine it was? this morphed into doing the same in cars as they went past behind the hedge as we built bikes up, I could always get 9 out of ten, be it anglia, bug, cortina, wartburg, lada etc etc got my first moped, nsu quickly at 12 as a non runner as a present, had it fired up in 2 days, then a bantam d14 again a non runner, which i used to visit my girlfriend lol,dad went mad when he found out! no tax mot ins etc, this again progressed into cars, when he was away and i had to keep the family fleet of mk1 escort and avenger in top order, i.e checking fluids and testing them! luckily we lived in a crescent so could go round the block without having to reverse excpet out if the drive, then drove back in,was great till the neighbour bubbled me, then the keys went with dad lol passe test day after my 17th birthday had first casr(triumph 2.5pi)nrd of the week 40quid insurance!

Mine came from nowhere, wasn't my parents. My dad, grandad and uncle were all into bikes. Guess it was the noise of engines or something, I remember being in newcastle city centre in my college days and an orange 'cuda drove past in the taffic, my mate was talking to me and I have no idea what he was saying as all I heard was the rumble of that V8. Plus I don't do the whole foozball thing and waste my time drinking and partying

Its all my dads fault, my earliest memories are with him while he was working on different motors, he taught me everything when i was growing up helping him on lots of different things, he built some great motors in his time, used to take me round the scrapyards with him as well, i loved it and wouldnt change a thing about my childhood, eventually when i have a child the skills will get passed on

My dad couldn't afford the cars he wanted so at the weekends he would search out Racing, car shows, tractor pulls etc.. to be near what he wanted (with my brothers and I along for the ride). He is in his 70's now and has passed from automotive interest but when he visits we still do the same things; junkyards, Racing and car shows. I've found that my interest in transport is odd in that it isn't focused on a brand but rather anything mechanical that I can personalize.

Been around a main Ford dealership growing up watching the cars now classed retro being unveiled from under white dust sheets on launch day. That and having a brother a mechanic who took me out in customers cars and remembering Mini Coopers and Lotus Cortinas seemed very quick alongside Ford 100 e s etc. The scrap yard trips were interesting as a youngster / cars three high etc were a challenge. Acquiring an Austin A35 with Speedwell parts on leaving school set me in the right direction. 50 years down the road the journey as been fascinating / exciting / frustrating and rewarding and the interest is as strong now as it was then.

By the way the tow car is a Humber Pullman from the late 40's/early 50's. Love the Minor.
