Yes I know it happened a few weeks ago! But I've been a busy buy and I've had storage issues! Silly excuses I know! I decided it was around time I pulled my finger out and sorted out the shots and a shonky video!
So, what took me to Race Retro? After all, I've been going for years and its all the same thing! Not quite. A few mates were going and it's always a great way to enjoy viewing the car, with a bit of banter and general chinwagging. It's interesting seeing what cars appeal to you and to others! Getting a winning ticket courtesy of Mintex merely sweetened the deal here! With the offer of helping out service a Renault 5 GT Turbo Series 1 I was not going to pass the opportunity up!
Speaking of the Mintex 5 GT Turbo here it is!
That was not to say that other cars did not take my attention! There was plenty to see. It is not every day that you see a 6 wheel race car! Like most cars this looked tiny compared to many of the cars there!
As always there were no shortage of Rally Cars:
There were some great Group B icons! Seeing the 205 T16 alongside the Metro 6R4 was something! It's funny, I always preferred the 205 in all guises as a road car compared to the Metro ; Maybe the MG Metro Turbo would tip the scales due to family memories! That said you can't really beat the howl of that V6 in the 6R4 or the agressive looks!
This Metro however was not just a Metro 6R4. It wasn't just something that got the pulse racing, or something that tried to be yet another M&S advert! What it was was a 6R4 but with a 4 cylinder Honda Civic Type R engine from an EP3. Yes, you did read that right! The conversion on this car is superb when I last saw it. A true credit to the owner:
Around the corner from this? A set of German beasts, albeit not ones that you would expect to see rallying, especially in the case of the M3:
Another soft spot? TR7 V8. hoopsontoast, you know what you need to do :
Then it was time for the ubiquitous stage. As such, there were well renowned rally cars present. The MkII Escort being one of them!
That's all for now but there is more to come .
