I'm trying to help my Dad find a replacement / temporary replacement distributor for his Gilbern Genie. It recently started running erratically and he found the distributor was showing advanced wear.
The engine is the Ford Essex 3 litre V6 Circa 1968. I think the distributor is 'Autolite' / 'Motorcraft' but I'm dealing with this at a distance so I don't have access to the actual part, I will also confess to not knowing much about Ford mechanicals in general.
Show season is just kicking off, he's got various local car shows lined up in the coming weeks and most companies are saying it'll take 3 to 4 weeks to get his reconditioned distributor back to him from the time he sends it off, i.e. not exchange.
From various posts I've read online it seems that the Autolite / Motorcraft unit was not not a good component and it was replaced with a Bosch unit.
Does anyone know whether he could just swap the original dizzy straight out for a Bosch one or are the camshaft drives different?
Thanks,
Chris
