Hi guys, bizarre question here, is there any worth in selling a burnt out classic complete with log book? Like, is there any value to a classic that still has a valid VIN and log book together?
Unfortunately a few years ago my father had a triumph gt6 that was involved in a garage fire (along with a few other cars) which has just been left sitting. As far as I know the car was completely burnt and nothing that I know of can be salvaged, unless rebodied like Mike Burroughs 'Rusty' was! But I was curious to know whether there could be any value or use in having the selling the car complete with the log book?
I'm not really sure if there is a use so thought I'd put it out there!
Cheers
Brads

More value for the classic car community by destroying the log book and scrapping the rest, before someone buys it as a ringing kit and uses it to re register someone else's pride and joy they just nicked...

I would not say there is . And to be honest , your just going to be selling the logbook as not many people will be interested in a complety burnt out GT6 . Its illegal and encourages theft of classic / retro cars .
I have seen burnt out fords on ebay for a fair bit but i presume thats for the paperwork as well .
You should surrender the logbook to the dvla and scrap the car

Depending on how intense the fire was, the chassis might be saveable? Seeing as the identity stays with the chassis you *could* legitimately sell said chassis along with the log book / ID for someone to build a GT6 out of bits from a rotten one.

I just think as said that's a clone waiting to happen Anyone buying or interested would be merely buying it for the id and v5 only Better option is to salvage small piece and frame it with the v5 and anything else related and hang it on your garage wall as momento Do the right thing chap

That's a real bummer Brads, sorry for your pops and hope he got a payout for the garage if not the cars. I think the sentiments above reflect the majority of the retro/classic car community. Don't suppose you have any pic to us weeps😭

Get it on ebay. Seems a favorite topic to whinge about on here but yeh some car logbooks have value and you might find someone needs one.

If the chassis is ok, why not build something like a Sammio roadster from it? I think they use Triumph Herald chassis, the GT6 chassis probably isn't that much different.

Yeah kind of thought the only use it might be would be to use the ID on another car. The other cars to get burnt were 2 Range Rover Classics, a Saab 9000 V6 and a Citroen AX. Some other guy had a Suzuki Jimny from what I can see...

I know of a near concours standard E49 Charger that was purchased as a burnt out insurance write off. They cleaned out the interior with a shovel. You'd never know to see it now.

If you want you can keep the shells, but I'll give you £1 for each log book and vin plate. I'll use the vin plates as drink coasters, and use the log book for lighting the open fire

I, however, beg to differ...and before anyone jumps on the whole, "but Porsches are worth a lot of money" bandwagon, just remember that this was a scrap shell bought for $300CAD (£150) because literally no one else wanted it. Of course, if you listened to the guys above and other like it, this would never exist. Thankfully, not everyone listens to the 'experts' and I'll be forever grateful to Scott for that.
