Got some rare cool wheels for my cortina, BUT 2 have this damage on them. I'm pretty sure the material is magnesium as well?! Will check but I'm the meantime could these be preffessionaly repaired before i ring around? Thanks in advance  This one has a ding on the front face  |

if they're old mag wheels I wouldnt bother trying, they crack easily and can be very brittle.

What makes you think they are mg?
Looks like they could be repaired quite easily to me.

What makes you think they are mg? Looks like they could be repaired quite easily to me. This style of period 60s wheel apparently only came in mg.. well so i was told. What test can i do to determine if they are ally or mag then slater? |

But of vinegar on em, if it fizzes it's mag.
They don't look like mag to me though, old mag wheels go grey through oxidisation, they look too shiny.

Well it's all in the weight. Weigh them and submerge them to find thier volume and calculate density from that. You can normally tell as soon as you pick one up with experience tho.
Either way you can probably do a half decent repair. They don't look bad in the photos

Have you got a photo of the wheel face? They look similar to D1s and they're alloy. Similar age as well.

They look like Dunlop D1's to me, if they look like this...  I shouldn't waste your time and money on them as you could buy a brand new set for under £300 from the likes of John Brown Wheels. If they are Dunlop D1's they will be aluminium, not magnesium. |

Nope not d1s they are much rarer , I'm right now going to try a vinegar test also will take a snap of hem for you guys. P.s jbw wheels are made of cheese id much rather spend £ on the original much better looking wheels. Just my 2 pence from experience as well but i appreciate the help and guidance there  |
