Right then we're about to go and we have a couple of problems :S.
First of all when I was driving the Escort back from Warwick to Rugby, the alternator light began to come on very faintly now and again on the very last part of the trip. I know the electrics in this car are not great (the lights flicker a little bit most of the time), but when my mate's dad tested the alternator on the car, he said it seemed to be charging fine with no real problems present unless he took the alternator off to investigate further.
The second problem is regarding my fault . I didn't know where the petrol gauge was on the Volvo, but it ran out of fuel (I'm fairly sure it did). Since I did that it does not seem to idle (well since I drove it back from where it ran dry (I ran it for about 10 minutes) unless the car is in neutral and I come down very gently on the accelerator. It cut out originally as I was letting the car come to a halt on a slightly downward sloping junction, and recently it hasn't been starting too great (it needs some time to warm up otherwise it will not run very well and try to cut out at low revs (blip the throttle in a certain way and it will try and cut out), although since I started using it again the problem was dissapearing.
Any ideas to what is at fault? The cars in question are 1989 Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet Mk4 as well as a 1989 Volvo 740 Prefacelift 2.3i GLE Auto (has the continuous injection to my knowledge .
Any help would be appreciated thanks .
