Horrendous cam rattle on my Capri because the lobes were worn. Been like it for about a year, ended up changing it at a car show. Sums up what I love about car people. I don't think you left for the show thinking 'May as well change the cam for something to do when i'm there' - Was it a case of 'Found cheap cam, have a high probability of help, got a timing belt from the stalls - ahh f**k it' I decided to change my alternator in my Beetle at Bug Jam one year. Bearings sounded like a case of 'square-balls' - It took a while & met a lot of people - even had spectators & various questions from people that had never seen under the fan shroud before - nobody slowed me down or got in the way - got more and more drunk as I went along & a round of applause from the spectators when completed!

rear wash wipe didn't work when I bought my 205GTI. sold it 7 yrs later, wash wipe still didn't work!! My wife bought a megane coupe when it was still quite new back in 2006, it eventually became my daily, then my brother had it until it was dead and it got scrapped in 2015. Not once in those 9 years did the rear demister work and the rear washer nozzle had come apart so the water didn't so much spray as just flow onto the window. Drove her mad, really didn't bother me at all!

I suppose it'd be eleven years with an engine that apparently blew up every month with an "R" in it

Yeah, up until that point in my life I had never owned a car with a rear wash wipe, so I didn't miss it, so just never got round to fixing it, as there were always far more important things to fix or replace...like the engine...3 times!!!

For some years I dailied an ADO16 that used a lot of oil. It got so bad that I would just drive it until the light came on and then fill it up with waste oil out of the tractor. Finally got round to swapping in a freshly rebuilt 1275 and only drove it about 9000kms before it got refused a wof (mot) because of the rust. It last ran in the winter of '96. Four changes of address later it sits in the paddock next to my bus slowly becoming one with the ground.

I bought a Mini 25 which, amongst other things had a leaky boot seal. I looked into changing it on several occasions but never bothered getting the bits.
It was still leaking 2 1/2 years later when I sold it...

16 years
Electric windows on the Carlton are permanently live
I think I've tried 10 different sets of window switches 4 door switches and it still does it
I know it's a wiring fault elsewhere but it drives me nuts!!!!
I'm gonna put a switch under the dash to isolate them cos it kills the battery when I'm not using the car!!!

Alternator doesn't self excite on my Vectra, so needs a rev to about 2.5k to get it going after every start. I know when it's charging as the engine warning light gets brighter been on my to do list for 12 months...

Window regulator worked but I had to pull the back part of the window up on my Focus daily.
11000 miles later I sold it and agreed to fix it for the new owner. Turned out it was the clip which had come off and popped straight back on!

Half the dash illumination on the mondeo does't work, bulb has gone meaning at night I can't see the rev counter or temp gauge. Been like it for best part of 2 years, I even got as far as buying replacement lamps at least a year ago...

ABS light has been black taped on the land rover. Only noticed it a couple of years ago when the tape slipped in the heat of summer and saw a little orange glow. Discovered 'le trois amigos' all neatly taped over. Repositioned it when I had the clocks out and was taping over the EML light. Been saving for abs valve mod for ages... It's not going to happen is it...
Warning lights and land rovers... A bad combination.

Just remembered one on my old Beetle, brake lights didn't work unless I switched the headlights on. So everytime I braked I had to pull the switch out, and push it back in. Just had to be careful at night.

Rubbish push-button start that intermittently requires more fingering than a... no, stop there. Anyway, I've been meaning to rip it out of the MX5 for the past 6 years.

Bought an MGB in 1988 with no overdrive. Bought a second hand overdrive box in 2000 Bought a rebuilt overdrive in 2004 Bought various important gearbox bits 2005-2015 Rebuilt the box and fitted the overdrive to the box 2015 Fitted the box and overdrive to the car 2017.
Overdrive doesn't engage. Curse word.

* Clunking wipers on my old Honda CR-V 18 - months - Never fixed it, not my car anymore
* No rear washer on the Capri - 10 years - Don't really need it, cba to fix it.
* Rattly noise from the gearbox on the capri - 7 years - Used the wrong sized clutch fork thingy (sierra, not capri, nobody told me they were different until I'd done it)
* Whining noise on my Alfa sometimes - 6 months - Sounds expensive. Using "ostrich mode" (head in sand, pretend it's not a problem.
