Hey guys am looking at buying a Standard 10 that's already had a 1500 Dolomite engine fitted.
he says the engine is got a possible headgasket failure so is it worth keeping the 1500 and tuning it slighty or Fit something else that fits without too much work
am hoping to make a wee ratrod/hotrod come daily driver for so need something that has a reasonable bit of power.......hoping for cheeky 100hp.
thanks in advance guys

A few years ago the good old ford pinto was thrown into just about anything that moved along with the 5 speed box. You even had a choice of sumps with the alloy RS2000, they have been chassis mounted or mounted on all manor of fabricated mounts. BUT They are hard to find now but with an easy 100BHP and no special electric boxes to mess about with it might be worth thinking about

There are a few on here and on the Standard forum that have been modified. They're pretty simple to play with. One had/has a Suzuki Cappucino turbo lump dropped in. Personally I'd look for something lighter than a Pinto.

Ford Zetec SE out of a Ford Puma 1.7? Convert to run carbs and ignition only ECU. Bit didficult but very light. Another option would be lightly breathed upon MGB engine or Ford Kent.

There are parts out there developed for the spitfire and midget, 100bhp is probably achievable but its not a great engine. The 1.7 zetec se has vvt the 1.6 might be easier with carbs. An mx5 engine and box is a good affordable alternative.

Another vote for the mx5 . Rotten donors out there for a few hundred quid and no issue with getting it running on std management
