I was watching Combat Dealers on quest last night, there was a section about tracks for a Panther 1 tank, wasn't that something you were involved in? If so a man called Johnny with a suspicious accent appeared on the show to deliver the castings... Fascinating episode showing the factories in the Czech Republic. Suspicious accent maybe, but a very dodgy hat too

Stupid busy at work again. Plenty early mornings and late nights. Haven't had time for anything else.managed to drill one hole in a bit of bar for the welding stool, that's all. 👎🏻 It does have its spin offs though, the first being a new tool box That's the first of two new investments. The second one is being built as we speak in Italy at considerable expense.... JB - I have the larger 96" version but mine is the 'Limited Edition' well used added workshop patina model Funnily enough Chris, I grew out of the 72" before I finished trying to pack my tools into it. Sold on for a profit last Friday. Bought a new 96" unit ,due to have been delivered today. Wasn't at the shop today,so will see it tomorrow. 96" much better layout with 5 rows of shallow drawers with one deep one at the bottom. 😊

Is that a foam mould? As in, its the core that melts away leaving the steel shaped?

Is that a foam mould? As in, its the core that melts away leaving the steel shaped? No. Its one of the patterns to make sand cores. We needed to cast 200 links. Cast two links at a time . Might see that in the Combat dealers episode, but haven't seen what they actually used ,footage wise 😊

The patterns are reusable. They would have had a pattern to cast 4 at a time. They would have had more than one pattern. The patterns get reused over and over again to make the sand cores. The sandcores get filled with molten metal ,then destroyed to get the part out. With one pattern, with two impressions,we were able to make 16 links per day. That's without urgency, the will to work, let alone the will to live. It would have been easy to make double that with a two impression tool if our lives depended on it....

That's tv for you, you need 94 per side on new sprockets..... plus either 6 or 8 spare that get fixed to the side. Like a spare wheel....

I looked up the episode of Combat Dealers for anyone interested, S04 E05 War Factories. Just after you say "I think I'll leave you to clean it up..." I can just about hear "...I've got an RX2 to build."

I’m still at a loss as to how much his Panther is worth... 😂
