First of all I don't want to spend too much Would prefer new to second hand Needs to good for air tools and spraying And not too big
I've seen a compressor in lidl of all places. Naturally as it's a compressor in lidl I'm not confident it will do the above and/or for very long

I have one of the lidl ones, fine for spraying and short bursts on air tools, if you want more you will need a bigger one or what I have, 2 of them.
I have had it 3 years and it's still working ok, but I only use it 2 or 3 times a week.
I think they have done more than 1 model as well mine is one of the larger ones.

Air tools can want a lot of air, so if you're planning to use impact wrenches etc, you'll need at least 15cfm of air, under load (a lot of compressors claim to provide a cfm figure that they don't achieve, by measuring this with essentially an open air line, not against the resistance of an air tool).
Farm sales etc are good places to find decent industrial stuff at good prices

Do you have the phase? Or is there 3 phase on your street? That will change things significantly.

Unless you are using it a lot or on a commercial basis is there any point in buying a new one over a quality lightly used one?

Get the biggest one you can. I bought a 50l compressor but regret not spending a bit more and getting a bigger one.

So would 100 litres cut it for air tools and spraying?
Other than the gun, airtools and compressor whatotherbuts are needed.
Never sprayed before so may see if I can go on a course

I've used and abused a small 25l lidl compressor for several years. Its sidelined now but still works ok if a little noisy. Its fine for small tasks, runs an impact gun and ok for small scale painting. No chance for DA sander, Die grinder etc. I've recently picked up a 3hp 50l airmaster for £60 off ebay. I'm only using it to run an air fed mask but they seem cheap and small enough for your needs but still have the 3hp motor.

It's not about the size of the tank. Its about how many cfm it can put out. Far too many people get hung up on tank sizes but really tank size is just an economy issue. Large tanks won't make a small compressor work high consumption tools.
