Hi Folks, Its a long shot but I'm thinking of perhaps weighing up the option of finding some space for some parts and another car. I need to think about this really, as we aren't sure on whether we will be moving house in the next few years, so spending cash on extending my small garage and making the garden smaller may not be a good idea. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that rents out garages / space in the chorley / leyland / south preston area of lancashire? Any rural areas local to that would also be ideal. I would also consider the south of stockport, cheadle / bramhall / woodford / wilmslow area too, as I still know those parts. Does anyone else rent their workshop / garage, and if so, around about how much do you pay? Don't mean to be nosey, just want to get a rough idea on cost before I make a decision. If this has been covered before please let me know- I have had a quick search but no joy!

don't really know of garages, though one was mentioned recently by a RRer, i'm sure £60 p/w was mentioned, there may be a few other options to infestigate. I was pondering looking for somewhere shared to work and store myself, but the money wont beavalable anytime soon. HTH

Sorry not much help but have you tried the local council? Hope you find something, if i remember right it was always a problem finding a decent garage in Preston. (live in Germany now but am a Preston lad at heart!)

Llandudno too far? i say.. sod the resale on the house, bigger garage, garden would only be a bit smaller, youd have a cool garage, that when ya come to sell , could be a bonus- extra storage space for peoples stuff, or maybe the buyer is looking for a house with a big garage. sure most peeps on here would see that as a bonus when looking for a home go for it Dan- ya know ya want too. say ya find a garage and ya get it for £20 a week (guessin here) thats £1040 a year if ya stay put for 4 years thats £4160 how much is the extension gonna cost? might be worth weighing up the cost gooooo onnnnnnnn Dan do it, do it, do it ,do it build a Man Garage

Can afford in the region of what we were on about; would you be able to chip anything in or is money real bad at the moment?

£60 a week is quite a lot, what space are you getting for that? for the same price i'm getting 100squ. meters indoors with brand new perfectly flat floor, 25ft ceiling and fully insulated walls+roof, plus 50 outside that i can use as i wish i.e. i don't have to keep it tidy it also pretty secure, only one way in or out of the unit and the compound, both of which are locked out of hours. £60 a week is basically £3k a year.

We pay £35 a week for a 10 car unit but thats on mates rates. Just looking into renting another as need more space. 2 brand new very secure lockup garages with no power etc just for storage is £20 a week, but i've found a 4 car workshop with ramp for £30 a week in central leeds so probably going for that.

I know it's a lot dez, but when nothing else is available you take what you get. Reanimation, it was me who mentioned the garage for rent in Withington. My mate Andy has now taken it. I'm not happy wit the landlord and neither is he - both our lockups have leaks and so far the office has done sweet FA to sort it out.

Ooh- cheers for the replys folks dimebar> Thanks very much but I'm just weighing up options at the moment, so don't need one just yet. You send that notice off, thanks for the kind offer though Council ones are few and far between up this end. I have managed to find a private one fairly local, its a double garage for "storage only" IE no tinkering and they want £100 a month for it- I am awaiting further details so thats one option. Carl> llandudno is close enough actually, but I'd feel guilty imposing- you don't really have the room to do yours properly then I will also have a think about the garage extension. Great replys all of these chaps, nice one- its given me much food for thought. Dan

I'm after somewhere around the Chester/Ellesmere Port ares, anyone fancy trying to find somewhere and splitting the rent? Ideally a warehouse type thing/barn/etc but even a farm yard would do if secure.

Good to know theres plenty of us interested at least! Mischab18b, yeah it was you, and did i get that right £60 p/w? i thought i'd typed that wrong, not £60p/m? Wickedbad: I have no idea at the mo TBH, See what comes up there, The garage is ok for a bit, but it would be nice to get my babies hibernated for a non stop autumn winter spring... (have a back up plan for that hopefully) had a nightmare last night that my Sierra had rotted to a brown crisp covered in blue paint! thank god it was only a nightmare cos its the dryest! ;D

i've been looking for a garage in the stockport area for a year and a half. i'm on the council list but I havent heared a thing. I asked at a few local farms but as soon as you say its to work on a car they don't want to no. horses yes. cars no way..if anyone finds somewhere and wants to share count me in. perhaps we should start a northwest retro rides garage?? just think a warehouse full of retro rides and all that knowledge under one roof.
