Here's a question for all you engineers out there:
I want to band my stock 14" VW wheels. I'm not having much luck finding someone to do it, so I decided to ask the workshop manager at my works (we are a mechanical engineering company, specialising in commercial heating, plumbing, ventilation etc...)
His initial thought was that it would be no problem (our guys weld 12" pipes all day long). However, although the welding is no problem, re-aligning the wheel is!
How can we make sure that the outer lip, and the band are welded on concentric with the rest of the wheel? Obviously we do not have a specialist jig, but I'm wondering if there's a way round this alignment issue.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

making a jig for it would be easy, somethin to hold the wheel still, and a few clamps and supports to hold the rim and the band in place

Its trial and error. Tho if you make the cuts accurate it will only need one trial and no error!

Haha, well that's the theory anyway! I'll see if I can convince the workshop guy to give it a go. I'll update if we get anywhere!
