www.flickr.com/photos/159910947@N06/38412278546/in/dateposted/For years I have been chuntering on about buying a proper old school British classic. Well on the August Bank Holiday weekend I was at a vintage fair and met up with a couple of blokes from the local Morris Minor club that I know and each had a car on display. Anyhow to cut a long story short one of them was looking to sell one of his Minors and I didn't need to be asked twice to go round and have a test drive. He had two for sale andI ended up with the Almond green 4 door. It does need work to all the wing, some paintwork and general tidying but it did come with a stack of spares including two good replacement front wings. Thankfully the car is really sound and actually passec its MOT last week with no problem. It also managed to complete the final MMOc NI run of the year. By the time I got home that night it had done 126 miles that day. And the main tning is I absolutely love driving it qnd can see why they are still so populqr. I'll try to get some more photos up if I can get the hang of Flickr!!

Looks a nice car. These early '63 cars are referred to as the 'split personality' models. They've got the 1098 engine, but the more desirable earlier lights & interior. Happy Minoring

Thanks for the comments guys. It is the split personality car flasshing white side and flashing red tail lights for indicators. None of this old amber nonsense on this car! Haven't had any problems yet with peeople not getting the indicators but then it hasn't been driven too much at night. Mught think about some small amber LED indicators at some point. As for the lowlight that was the first Minor I think I had been in since I was a kid and it is a lovely old thing. I don't think it will ever be parted with. As for work on the car I haven't done much just been enjoying driving it.

20171127_161616 by PETER WILSON, on Flickr Have a few days off so decided to take the plunge and start a bit of work on the Minor. Both front wings are quite crusty so I have two good second hand wings to go on so off with the old ones. Thankfully its previous owner had greased all the bolts so they mostly came off without too many problems. I'd even managed to find a 1/4 Whitworth spanner to fit. Must have been either my dads or maybe even my grandfather's. Just shows you should never chuck old tools out. Everything looks pretty solid so next job is to redo the underseal. Need to also get the front panel and valance off as these need rubbed down for paint. Going to see if I can get an hour or so tomorrow.

Ok I've just realised I did start a thread on the Minor. Well after a very long and very cold winter the Minor hasn't progressed too much. Apart from stripping a bit more off the front end, rubbing the wheels down and undersealing the inner wings not much has been done. It did start first time after 6 months but the water pump went bang. Hopefully get a few hours this week on it.
Now obviously the main problem is the car will need a lick of paint on most panels. Now I can't spray and not all bodyshops want to be bothered with classics. Now this will appal a lot of you but I'm going to have a go at coachpainting the replacement panels with the possibility of doing the whole car. If it dosen't work then it'll be off to a body shop. Paint has all been bought and just need to get my Purdy brushes which seem to get the best reputation. Anyhow I'll try to keep this up to date and add a few more pictures.

Minors seem to be a thing round these parts. Saw one very like yours yesterday, OI plate, down near Clipperstown. I see a grey one about quite a lot as well, and someone in or near Milebush has two lowlight models. I'm told a lad in Greenisland or Jordanstown has a yellow one with a big-power 1275 in it.
Best of luck with the painting.

Cheers for that. My friend, that I got mine off, has two Lowlights and uses a 69 as his everyday car. Mine'll just be a toy.

Sorry doing something wrong with the pictures. Yes Co Down car and original owner lived not far from my grandparents house. I like to think I may have seen it on the road when I was a nipper.

Ok tbink I've got it now. As mentioned at the start of the thread I was going to use coach paint as I've always wanted to try it. Obviously it isn't for everyone but I thought why the hell not. So I puchased three Purdy brushes for £50 and to break the brushes in I decided to do the wheels first. Stripped all the old paint off and got stuck in. Finish is quite good but as I was doing this during the really hot spell the paint was drying too fast and not flowing out to allow the brush marks to dissipate. Also I also hadntgot the high build undercoat as flat as I could and some marks were coming through from this. In the end I got a reasonable finish and eventually got the car back on its wheels. 20180520_202622 by PETER WILSON, on Flickr 20180606_195738 by PETER WILSON, on Flickr I was tempted to leave them red for the rat rod look but decided to carry on and get them old english white.

From the wheels I moved onto the bodywork. First panel I did was the front valence and it turned out really well. Don't have a photo of it but here's one of the front panel. 20180910_151146 by PETER WILSON, on Flickr Two top coats on this but think I'll give it another as I missed a bit, it has picked up some dust from theshed whilst it was drying and there are a few brush lines as I tried to lay off some of the paint that had dried too much. Overall I'm really pleased with the finish that I'm getting. Hopefully the whole car will be painted for less than £200. It's not a fast way to paint a car as you need to leave 24 hours at least between coats. I'm also hampered by having back problems which limits the amou tof time I can work on thecar at any one time to about an hour. It will be done but it'll be next year at least before its back on the road.
