I have a long running thread that details my 1972 Mk1 Escort Estate Custom. But this year I found a 1992 Ford Escort RS2000 at my kind of money and so I bought it. It needed a few thing though, so when I heard about a 1992 cabrio being prepped to go to the breaker,s a bit of research revealed it to be a good source of spares and it was very cheap indeed so I bought it, also. Then I heard about a 1992 (spotting a trend yet ) XR3i for sale. It has loads of bits I still need/want for the RS, so yesterday an 8 hr round trip happened to buy it and bring it home. So I ask. Stick up a new thread or combine them with my estate? Link to the estate is below if you haven't seen it. Combine. As in, combine the mk1 with the mk5 engine...

I have a thread of babble on the go, and probably long overdue an update where I babble on about all the cars in my collection. However It started out pretty much that way, but even so I sometimes think it's sort of a mess, and often I don't think it 'flows' very well. If I were 12 pages into a thread as you are, I would probably start a new thread if I was you. Having said that I would combine it so that it includes all of your mk5(?) Escorts.

Combined treads work well with a strong theme throughout. All one make/model, bought this sold this bought this, or consistently working on a variety of toys Not so good with many pages devoted to one, then it's replaced by something very different & never seen again.

Sounds rather like this latest 3-in-1 Escort is going to be a big project in its own right, deserves its own really. Combining it with the Mk1 thread could well put readers off, something I learned with my combined thread where most folks are there for the Princess and not the 414 or 1100. Up until recently my car history was changing a lot so a combined thread was much easier to maintain, in your case I suspect not.
Another thing in favour of separate threads is that it's easier to refind info - both as the author and a reader - than it is with a combined thread.
On the other hand, having the 3-in-1 Escort in its own thread might not get much attention because it's the newer end of the retro scale (and some would even argue too new to be retro) so it would benefit from the passing traffic your Mk1 already gets.
TL:DR - separate thread probably most sensible because of the nature of the project.

I thought this was going to be a thread about combining the mk1 and the Rs2000 engineš© Thanks for the opinions everyone. The possibility of the dohc going into the Mk1 is nil.... I'm keeping the RS standard. However the 1.8l zetec in the xr3i stands every chance of ending up in it...... I shall mull it over a bit.

It sure does. It's got a 5 speed tran x and 4.6 Atlas. 150bhp for Ā£100. Bargain of a life time. I've bought a 2.3 also

Options for me would be a separate thread for each car *or* one thread for 70s, another for 90s (so I can bookmark the era I like )
