Finally got an hour or so on the car at the weekend before being snowed off. I managed after a lot of swearing and cursing to finish the strip out and fit a 106 dashboard. Various internet forums said its a direct replacement which turns out to be complete and utter rubbish. I had to remake all the brackets and trim the dash. now it in it looks a lot smarter than the 205 dash and gives me loads of room for the switch gear in the centre section.

I thought the 205 would be quite a bit wider then a 106, do they share any panels ?

That looks good! DO the stalks and stuff interchange? Nah the stalks are not interchangeable i would need to change the entire steering column so it was easier to trim the dashboard.

I thought the 205 would be quite a bit wider then a 106, do they share any panels ? Judging by the difficulty in fitting the dash i very much doubt they share anything.

slow progress recently but managed to get a GTI front bumper and installed that over the weekend
Also relocated the battery to the rear of the car and wired up the ignition and push button start.

I'd go for the TU5J4 (1.6 16v) rather than the XU but thats just me.

How about a lithium battery rather than that monster? They only weigh 1kg.

I'd go for the TU5J4 (1.6 16v) rather than the XU but thats just me. Ive heard they are a bit of a nightmare to fit in the 205 but not done any research yet

Should be pretty straight forward as the 205 had the TU fitted from the factory as well as the XU.
My pal used to have a 195bhp one fitted to his 205 hillclimb car.
He had to mod the ex manifold slightly but other than that it went in fine.

Back on this project this weekend to get a load of jobs completed. Because GTI engines are going for silly money i am going to go for a 1.4TU engine on bike carbs to start off with as they have great reviews when they are bolted into an XS so when they have a pair of bike carbs fitted it should go well. There seem to be loads around on the 206 and Citroen models so should be able to pick up a cheap one.

whats the logistics of auto to manual conversion? are the shells different or just small nuances with bolt in items ? (like pedal box and gear shifter)

Awesome progress so far! I always wanted a 205 gti, but the prices they’re at now, I just don’t think I could justify it Perhaps going down a similar route with a lower spec shell and doing an engine conversion is the way to go!

(like pedal box and gear shifter) It’s pretty much just a case of swapping out the pedal box and shifter, it’s just bootable parts. Would need suitable trim for the interior though as the area around the gear stick is different.
