Hello all, this is my first post on here, after reading many many threads its time to create my own. I have just won on ebay a 1995 N reg Peugeot 205 1.6 Auto full MOT and rust free (apparently) off to collect it from Bedford on Friday Morning From Derby. The plan at the min is to strip it and rebuild it into a track car, thinking a 1.9 gti engine running bike carbs roll cage etc. Anyway here are the Ebay pics more to follow at the weekend once i have it home.

Start collecting your parts before they become even more pricey.

Picked the car up on Friday last week but not done anything with it. It drove perfectly all the way home and really makes you realise how far technology has come on in cars. It was amazing blasting up the m1 overtaking cars and peoples heads turning.
Starting to collect parts i need but already shocked at the prices and lack of them. Going to strip the car this weekend and sell all the part i don't need.
Already got the GTI exterior trim to fit, just need the valences for the bumpers for the exterior look to be complete. will update some pics over the weekend.

With the auto bonnet this is begging out to have an XU10J4RS engine thrown in! The 306 Gti-6 engine bolts int but the Xsara VTS derivative gives you a gearbox as well .

With the auto bonnet this is begging out to have an XU10J4RS engine thrown in! The 306 Gti-6 engine bolts int but the Xsara VTS derivative gives you a gearbox as well . I know that when using the 6 speed box the tyre fouls the end of the box, is that the same if you go for widetrack 309 conversion?

306 gti 6 engine sounds a very viable option still not fully decided yet. Just cant make my mind up. will finish stripping the rest of the interior and redundant engine part by the end of this week.
I will put up a for sale add in the relevant section with all the parts removed.

Yes, it still does. The 306 GTi-6 circumvented this by putting a rack restrictor on the right hand side of the rack. This made the steering lock pretty abysmal turning right as hoopsontoast can personally verify . That was a mean trick I played but a funny one! It had a new meaning with regards to doing 3 point turns, and negotiating mini-roundabouts The VTS gearbox is still a 5 speed and thus solves that issue. The ratios are also suited for the GTi-6 engine. The best thing to do if you were to do it would be to buy a tatty VTS donor. That way you get an ECU, a GTi-6 engine, a gearbox that fits unless you want a 1.6 or 1.9 GTi gearbox, along with other bits. But it depends on how feel. Many a Xsara VTS, 306 GTi-6 as well BX GTis and Mi-16s have given up their engines for a 205. Speaking of which I still fancy a much fabled 309 GTi16! Yup, the factory made an Mi-16 engined 309!

Thank you for the info. A good friend of mine has an Mi16 powered 205, well its been in bits for about 6 years now haha.

Yeah, that was fun, 'why is nothing happening' when trying to negotiate a mini roundabout in Tesco car park.....

Prices for 205s are rocketing last couple of years. Still need a good few bits for mine but i’m Stone broke! After being there with the Escort RST I'd get the bits when you can afford them and ASAP. No one makes them anymore and it's a case of when they pop up, and that parts list will only ever dwindle. I remember turning away a set of £30 speaker grills in Shark Grey because I thought they were too pricey! In the end I paid £50 a year later, which wasn't bad considering most sets were going for almost double that!

Absolutely. Mine is a PH1 so even harder to bet bits for. No time at the moment, I reckon in a couple of years it will be a viable candidate for a bare metal resto...

I’ve got quite a few bits of 205 stashed away from my written off one. I’m not tempted to sell any of them for fear of actually needing them myself!
