Repair or replace trolley jack

I have a £25 Halfords trolley jack which drops over a span of 10 minutes

Should i fix it or buy a new one?

Ok, i decided to buy a new one

Not only was mine going down but the main arm was bent meaning it got caught on the frame when lowering (this could be the cause of the leak)

Anyway the £25 jack i thought i got from Halfords last year was now £50 (with a £10 reduction). Too much i think

So after checking many pages on ebay i found one which lifts to the same height (36.5cm), is low profile and £31.99 including postage. Job done

Just thought i'd share that

it was probably £30 odd if you have a trade card, well worth getting one.

as for jacks I invested £80 in a clarke 3 ton jack from machinemart over 10 years ago and its still going strong, it is a tad heavy though.

Yeh i thought about a 3 tonne but was worried about the weight. I find i'm often kneeling when lifting the jack into place and extra weight would that harder

I could use a trade card but i go so infrequently i always forget

Also it might take some work as i don't have wage slips to prove what i do. One employee once told me if i have paypal receipts for sale of car parts they would accept that, then another said they wouldn't

On something like a trolley jack I wouldn't mess around. Get a half decent one.

I still have a 3 tonne £70 Clarke. I use it in addition to my axle stands; I hate working under a car without it being on a ramp for obvious reasons. That Clarke however is super sturdy. I can't say the same about my £30 Kinzo jack. I keep that more for aligning bolts up etc.

don't forget to chuck a wheel under as well if you take one off, only needed it once, but was glad it was under there lol.

I’ve never had a decent Halfords jack. Got 30+ year old ones here still going strong but all the New ones I buy seem to die within months.

I splashed out last winter and got a 3 ton Clarke one and it has been perfect. Think they must just be cheaply made...

Same here bought 2 Halfords jacks and both knackered, bought one of Argos as needed one urgently and it's still going strong, but I also found SGS have a good range of jacks and bought my low profile one from them and wasn't to expensive

I have a Halfords tiny one I bought 32 years ago, it still works but its much more robust than the new stuff.
I rarely use it now as I have bought a couple of second hand jacks but much heavier, over the years and just use them.
Epco are very good and repairable and can often be found cheap
Viking ( Sealy) Webber are also good.
A good trolley jack is for life

Thank you! Was trying to remember that brand! Someone else suggested they're good too.
