I’m stripping down a late 4.6 Range Rover v8. It’s a Thor generation with the cross bolted main bearing caps. They were an absolute nightmare to remove. It’s like they are interference fit. Now they are out, there is no way that two of them would want to go back in without serious hammer action. Some of the bearings were well and truely goosed, like it’s been run on no oil and picked up and then sneared them.
I’m thinking the block has distorted due to heat and that’s why the caps wouldnt come out or go back in? Is that possible? Or are they just mega tight on these engines?

I have a cross bolted block and the caps were just a good fit nothing difficult. I will have a chat with a mate of mine who has build hundreds if its something that he has come across in the past.
ETA.
His words - Quite normal they can be a pain - typically they stuck them in an oven and warmed the block to 80C which made it a bit easier but they can still be a right sod some worse than others.
