So it was all Ford meet at Beaulieu today, which I have never been to before (the Ford meet, not Beaulieu). I was on a night shift last night, but the weather was so good today that it was worth not going to bed for. Lots of, you guessed it, Fords. Some were fantastic others were mainstream and seemed like a cheap way of getting into Beaulieu.
I'll focus on the fantastic as its more interesting. We will start with the American stuff.
A couple of well built 'T buckets'
Next A Falcon (I think, American Fords are not my thing)
A stunning Thunderbird, which was < W I D E >
And finally a rather 'raked' Mustang, but it did look very good.
Now for all you out there that think Ford's are shonky heaps of junk........you'd be right. Three cars broke down at the gate
You had to feel for these guys, stalling at the gate and not being able to restart (possibly because of the hot temps) must have been slightly embarrassing. Most people offered to help mend/push/set fire to, said cars, and eventually everyone made it into the event.
There were quite a lot of 60s fords, some in stunning condition with tasteful modifications.
Yes, yes I know, its a 1970's car but started production in the 1960's.
The main interest for me were the 1980's/1990's cars, as that was when I grew up and what influenced my car culture. It was good to see big outward rolled exhaust's, big spoilers and large alloys.
Like every show, there were some standout cars amongst the hoards of Focus's (Focii?) and Fiesta's, and not all of them were big budget builds.
The first one was this. Now I have to confess I don't know what it is (Mercury maybe?) but it was stunning.
The second one for me was this little green Ka. Good stance, bright colour with complimenting gloss black highlights, nice choice of seats and not over done.
The next one was this Escort. Its done in the usual Escort way, lowered, minilites, signal orange, quarter bumpers etc but the engine choice was very different. The builder had used a Zetec SE out of a Puma and it looked just right, sat there in the engine bay.
And finally, you can't have a Ford show without the ubiquitous 'would you like to see my Purple Probe' joke.
And that's it, all in all a good show made better by the weather.
