What a lot of you don't know is that they use acid based chemicals / cleaners for removing the crud - especially on the wheels - these are normally sprayed on with a garden type / industrial pressure sprayers - even if they are only doing the wheels it does not prevent the spray mist contacting with the rest of the car - there is only one way to do it properly and that is by yourself.

Looks like they were using TFR!

How much did you pay?
Because if it was £3 then what did you expect.
@ £3 each man needs to was 3-4 cars an hour to make a wage so speed is key, so garden sprayers full of TFR and a watering can are what you get. Most people with PCP Picantos don't care as the car is clean for £3.
If you paid £50 then indeed I would be royally disappointed.

My heart goes out to you , as this is your pride and joy. but its also a valuable lesson learned. These guys who operate quickie car washes are cheap because they cut corners, harsh chemicals not diluted properly and the like . I'd rather my car look like it was dragged out of a swamp backwards than let them lose on it, working in the motor trade i see so much damage caused to cars by these cowboys. You've had a relativley lucky escape this time, best off making time and doing it yourself in the future mate.

Not good, although I do struggle to have any sympathy with anyone using a car wash, be it manual or the automatic ones. Who can’t wash their own car?

Not good, although I do struggle to have any sympathy with anyone using a car wash, be it manual or the automatic ones. Who can’t wash their own car? I'm semi disabled (walk with a stick), my daily, 2018 Karoq, goes to the local car wash as it hurts like hell to clean it and its a consumable, like a fridge, they do a great job for £6. My toys I take a lot of time over myself and in Spring they get the works over 2-3 days, muck doesn't stick, there is wax, sealant, and nanotech on them. (and doing it hurts like hell).

I’m probably one of the most fussy Clean car people in the world! There is no way I’d let any supermarket or back street car wash anywhere near any of my cars As said harsh chemicals used and washmits used hundreds of times and full of grit I’ll do my own thanks ....

Washing cars?
Washing them?
What new devilry is this?
I do feel for you. It ought to be possible to pay to have your car washed without it being destroyed, for any money.
On the other hand though... a cherished MK1 Escort doesn't really belong down the scrub n rub at any price.
So I'm kind of on the fence in terms of sympathy. You have my sympathy, but I'm tutting and mumbling under my breath behind your back.

been getting this kind of results from a hand car wash myself, shows up badly as its black, completely agree with @grumpynorthener its overspray from the wheel cleaners (in my case are applied with garden style weed killer pump exactly like GN said)
not permanent like yours as it disappears with normal polish. but yeah, you go there to get it cleaned....

My cars get a quick go over down at the Jet Wash which I do myself as it gets the worst of it off. Then home for a good going over with a bucket and sponge. Once thats dried it's out with the Mr Sheene! Let someone else loose with the cleaning duties... I don't think so! I am however training my kids how to do it properly! But if they drop the sponge, it goes in the bin!

I soak ferrous and plastic engine parts in TFR to clean the oil staining off and it does a great job. Why anybody would want it on their paint I have no idea.

There’s nothing wrong with TFR IF it is used correctly. I would never trust any kind of public car wash to use it correctly though!

When i worked at a garage years ago i gave my mini a wash, using the hardcore cleaner stuff and had exactly the same result. It horrified me so I can understand exactly how you feel. Then I gave my car a going over with autoglym polish and it looked as good as new. From what i can gather all it did was stripped the paint of any waxes youve used, so once you replace them everything should be spiffing.

Not good, although I do struggle to have any sympathy with anyone using a car wash, be it manual or the automatic ones. Who can’t wash their own car? I loathe cleaning cars - and to do it properly takes hours. Just seems like a major waste of time... I just run out with a sponge when it starts raining so Mother Nature can do some of the job for me!! Maintaining & attempting to improve 3 cars and 1 bike is already a challenge while having some kind of life balance
