That blasting pot looks like it delivered for you.
I guess you had a lot of air to going into it?
I had one here, but found it was possibly my compressor that was at fault.
Looks like glass media you used?
Truck came out lovely.
As for workshop, yes !!

That looks like it’s going to be an awesome workshop! What size is it? I’m currently on a look out for a house, and the land to build a nice big workshop is one of the main criteria/ one already built Book marked, and can’t wait to see more updates on not only the workshop, but on the wheeled projects too. Such an awesome variation! Thanks, the workshop is 10m x 7m. I'm looking forward to being able to work on projects at home rather than a 45 minute round trip as it currently is.
Good luck in your search for house, my criteria has always been the same as yours!
I do have a wide and varied taste in cars.

Yes the blasting pot did work, although it struggled to get going but once it was flowing it was great. I have 2x 3hp compressors feeding it.
And, yes it was indeed glass media, I bought a crane bag (1ton ish) and it worked out a lot cheaper than buying in small quantities - ive still got a lot left.
Should have kept the truck....

Sorry to hear about the illness, I hope things can improve.... I’m not a huge land rover fan (stems from my off-roading and the jokes we crack at each other (Landy owners) but I do really appreciate the old ones, and would still certainly have one. You didn’t waste any time getting stuck into this and getting the chassis cut away. I can’t wait to see the next update on it

Nice - I take it that the part chassis is somewhat cheaper than a full new chassis and therefore worth the effort in repairing rather than renewing ?

Thanks, yes the rear half chassis was from memory about £350, a new chassis is considerably more - had the front section been of dubious quality then I would of had no choice but to buy a complete replacement. My theory for the front half being in good condition is due to Land Rovers rust prevention system (the amount of oil that generally leaks from anywhere it can, then coating the chassis with oil)

an update...So with landy appearing to be going back together I thought id give it a machine polish Mmmmm..first gear didn't want to stay in place without me holding it in gear worry about that later, more polishing. Happy with how the paint came up - good enough for a landrover anyway, still plenty of scratches but looks better.

Each workshop door is 8ft wide by 7ft tall - I managed to put these up with no thinking, just brute force...amazing what weetabix can do, but they were extremely heavy.

Thanks chaps, I do ok considering I'm pint sized (or even half pint some might say), just got the electrics to sort into the workshop then insulate plaster board and then plaster.....need more funds again though - the cable alone to get power there is £600, so it will have to wait for a bit. Gearbox reassembly time... Fitted the new syncros and 1st gear onto the mainshaft without any problems, but to put the mainshaft back into the casing is a bit of a fiddle, you need the arms of an octopus to hold the syncros in place whilst the mainshaft is pressed into the casing using the press. Once that finally in place a quick check that the gears select by moving the gears and syncros by hand, all selected but the gearbox jammed up when trying to turn...mmmmmm Damaged syncros After dissembling it again to try and see what was wrong, there was a lot of head scratching, but then counted the number of teeth on the new 1st gear and it had 2 more teeth so I had ordered the wrong part - frustrating but relieved to find the problem.

Too many photos of gears are a bit boring but after the new correct gear arrived I reassembled the gearbox without too many issues. Fitting it back in was a bit of a ball ache, but pleased to say it seemed to select ok and moved under its own steam once again.

Finally it felt like I was getting there, I spent a good day sorting out electrical gremlins, mainly just switches that needed cleaning, and got everything working. I hadnt noticed any engine issues but topped it up with oil as it was a bit low then started noticing this.. This was very disappointing, as id spent what i felt was plenty of time and money so far so to see this amount of smoke was not good. My first thought was probably valve stem oil seals, I assumed they had probably gone hard due to being un used over the years. I knew I could only return to the workshop to further investigate when I was in a better frame of mind (I.e less likely to take a ball pein hammer to the bodywork).

Darren, its a petrol. What frustrates me is how I didn't see the smoke when I looked at it, clearly the seller was having a good day and I wasn't. Anyway moaning about it wont change the fact that I'm an idiot..... Once I was calm enough to re enter the workshop and any damage inflicting objects were at arms length I decided to whip the head off and have a look - I attempted the rope down the bores, but I couldn't get the valve collets to free up, so off with its head. Looks promising - the valve seals as I thought were very brittle There is a bit of a ridge at the top the bores, not ideal but compression test showed good results, although with the amount of oil in the bores I'm guessing compression readings were falsely reading higher than actual.
