Been getting mightily curse word off recently with people cutting me up on roundabouts. There are roadworks on the ring road from the m1 at colton down towards crossgates. Its a dual carriageway, right lane goes straight on down the ring road, left lane turns left and goes down selby road.
Theres always a queue in the right lane, so you get loads of tossers going down the left lane then trying to race onto the roundabout and cut in. I was sat there waiting for traffic so I could pull out and new beemer man pulls up and looked across and I knew straight away he was gonna try and cut me up.
Cars went, I nailed it (which doesnt mean much in a 1 litre uno) and he put his foot down to try and get round me, so i stayed where I was.
Result - my car = no damage
His car = went wanging into a big kerb at about 30mph and hit a signpost with the left hand side of the car.
Yay for cheap bangers to prove a point lol.
Matt

Great, so you saw the potential for an accident, did nothing to prevent it and effectively caused one instead.
Hope I don't meet you on the road. Sound like a grade-A bad driver.

I'm glad you did so, fair play to ya!
You had nothing to do with said accident as fair as i can see, people should really learn to use lanes properly, maybe he'll think twice next time, thus preventing a proper accident!

I can see why you did it, but I would've just let him go in front of me...and smiled about it. It feels surprisingly good actually.

Fair play mate! When i had my old heap-o-plop maxi it was like a written invitation for people to cut me up etc etc, what they didnt realise was the car actualy had a very good turn of speed and it contained a driver who didnt give a damn. On one occasion i pulled up to a set of lights in the right hand (to go straight ahead) and a lexus pulled up next to me in the left hand lane (to turn left only). We were going slightly down hill and when the lights went green he booted it and i absolutly nailed it. As the road narrowed on the other side of the junction i was about 1ft in front of him when i heared a 'thud', but felt nothing. I slowed down and looked in my rear view mirror and it looked like he'd destroyed the front nearside suspension by hitting the kerb. I did laugh. ALOT! This wasnt the only time it happened of course, it seems to be that some people think that because your car is older, it automaticly makes it slower and gives them the right to get infront of you in any way possible. Not true!

Did you drive away with that 'serves you right you corporate to55pot' grin on your face? I would have!! Oh, and I don't think you 'caused' anything. It was caused by Mr Nazi Staff Car's 'f**k the traffic laws, I'm getting front my way' attitude.

Hahahaha first class! I f*cking hate that sort of thing. As far as I can see, you drove in the normal manner in the correct lane. The BMW driver drove badly and crashed. Simple really.

Oh, and I don't think you 'caused' anything. It was caused by Mr Nazi Staff Car's 'f**k the traffic laws, I'm getting in front my way' attitude. I'm with Brian here, yeah you saw what was going to happen, but it was the other drivers total disregard for traffic laws or safe driving that meant he did that to himself. I guess no-one else was involved?

On roundabouts the rule used to be: Left Lane = Turn Left + Straight Ahead Right Lane = Straight Ahead + Right Turn. Road system is load of $hite in the UK anyway and roundabouts should have been left in the 1950's where they belonged.....retro $hite if you ask me The most laughable site on the roads in the UK these days is the roundabout with traffic lights....I mean come on what fvcking moron dreamed that up - put a bloody junction in there and do it properly!!!! OK I'm off my soapbox now

Couldn't agree more. He was in the wrong lane (and I'd put money on it being on purpose rather than accidentally ) and he suffered the concequences. Might make him think twice about it next time.

Yeah talk about after-thought! does my head in. Teaching teh GF to drive, shes nervous enough at roundabouts rightly, "ok clear on teh right, go" " STOP its on red! WTF waste of money and roadworkers time, think of a system that will work please! I'm concious not to have my cars look so softly soft, I want them to know i'll be moving along with conviction, whether i'd stop or not, i dunno, probs not TBH, I did that once and got my XR2's assend stoved in by a sleepy 106 driver

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm just as guilty of this, i wont get out the way of someone trying to cut in on me, but its still bad driving, things can ecalate into a bad accident, or you could come up against someone like my mate who regulally gets out and has a go at people, he was followed by someone with his fog lights on for about 5 miles, when the stopped at a set of traffic lights he got out of his van and kicked all the guys front lights in cos the guy wouldnt get out and face him. not the right thing to do but he does it anyway.

Are the lanes marked with arrows though? I can see it being an easy mistake to make being in the wrong lane if they aren't, with the left lane traditionally being straight on. I'm not saying this particular guy was there accidentally however.
A similar thing happens on a roundabout near me - there are two major exits and a third, smaller exit. The lanes aren't marked as anything different from the usual, but still people try and use the right hand lane to go straight on.

Yeah I had a nutter jump out and try to start something a while back. He was in the wrong lane and thought I'd cut him up. Raced up the inside and blocked off my lane, jumping out shouting and ranting. He soon got out the way when I nailed it towards him. Not a very nice experience. That's the trouble with these altercations, you can get some psychos on the road and end up getting into something serious. It always amazes me that people are a lot more agressive in their cars than they would be on the street.

i can see the joy of getting one up on a "look at me I got a big flash car so get out the way" brigade but at the end of the day you gotta look after number one.......
and actively seekin a dual of impact with solid metal objects can see your guts splattered all over the upholstery and road.....
a Fiat Uno is on my list of cars that i would never drive due to safety issues or the lack of.....
i.e your protective cage is fatiguing with age and it was tin foilesque in the first place.. :-0
I agree with what RMAD said

Yeah i agree, I'm 6'7" so people don't push in front of me usually, and if they bump me in a pub when they turn round looking stropilly at my chest you can see the face go rigid and then an appology comes out really quick as they look up at me, put em in a car though and its totally different usually, the mate i mentioned is like it all the time though, pulled a fag machine of the wall and dumped it on the bar in the pub once when it ate his money. :S Its hard and i'm no saint, but best not antagonise people thse days i think.
