Hi,
I have used Tom from The Car Mover. He's based in Kent and charged me a good price to bring my Trabant from London. Plus, he does a good job and is a genuinely nice guy. I had to use someone else recently who forgot one of the straps when moving my Saab!
Drop him an email on info@thecarmover.co.uk. If you want a phone number, PM me. Hope that helps.

Don't go anywhere near shiply, the traders/sellers on there are ridiculously priced, I wanted a transit connect moved 11 miles last week and had prices over £150!

I have had good experiences with Shiply, yes the quotes are daft as they come in but over a day or two they drop dramatically. It’s worth a try.

I used to import cars and used a guy called Dan Chappell quite a few times. He was excellent, worth getting a quote from him. Precious Metal Ltd Arterial Road, Dunton, Essex, CM13 3TB tel: 01268 493548 07971 557480 web: www.preciousmetaltransport.co.uk

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

I'm not quite sure what you expected to pay but I would have thought £100 - £150 was fair - and it is what I would have paid the chap that I use bearing in mind that I am in the motortrade - These guys have to earn a living they are not doing it for the sake of it and certainty not a charity - they have to purchase the truck or tow vehicle & trailer in the first place, stand the depreciation on them along with all the running costs, insurance is not cheap either in that line of business, nor is fuel then all the hidden costs such has advertising, admin, phone & sundries - no doubt that they would have to do some mileage to get to the collection in the first place and after all of this they have find a wage out the amount of what is left. Ok some days they may get lucky and have 3 short haul jobs in the day but then may well spend time stood waiting for the phone to ring on other days.

I run at £1.70 a mile pick-up to destination plus tolls. That includes 'reasonable' time loading and unloading. I started doing recovery in 1975 so have a bit of experiance.

I certainly wasn't expecting to pay >£10 per mile for a simple recovery job! I can hire a beavertail for £98 a day. I'm genuinely not interested whether they have 3 short haul jobs a day or 30 to be blunt, I'm self employed so am fully aware of the costs involved in running a business too.

Short distance jobs are always likely to be more expensive though. A firm we use has a minimum invoice of £235 ex VAT.
It’s not just a mileage rate calculation, as anyone who’s done an O licence will tell you.

Shiply is a great platform. I have a Mercedes Sprinter 3.5ton Beavertail Recovery truck and a Triple Axle Brian James Tilt-Bed Trailer for the very low/heavy stuff, but for most longer-distance collections/deliveries now where I don't have to be there I use Shiply in most instances as for the prices you can get quoted on there it simply isn't worth the time and effort for us to do it ourselves here. On there you get guys who are on the road all the while, so are in their area at either end or are looking for a backload etc etc, whereas people like us are only on the road very occasionally when we need to be.
Obviously check feedback and choose wisely, but I've never been let down to date.

Shipley can be good and cheap but.... In the first posters enquiry...Herts to North Scotland.
To do this journey cheaply you would need a backload which,I would think hard to find. Therefore ypu might have to wait. Another consideration is the back load will take the drver well over the permitted drivers hours. An overnight stay would ad to the ptice. Shipley may be good but consider how they can be so cheap.
