Description:
Up for sale is my 1990 Honda Prelude Limited which I have owned and daily driven for approximately a year and a half. If you know 3rd generation Prelude’s then you will know this is the model of this generation to have. It has the B20A7 engine which was the highest output version at 150bhp, it is a 5 speed manual, and has four wheel steering. The Limited also featured full colour coded bumpers, boot spoiler, electric colour coded wing mirrors, full grey leather interior, air con & sunroof. I am pretty confident there cannot be many of this specification left around in this condition. The car has only just done over 70k miles, and has lots & lots of paperwork and history to back this up including two books full of service stamps, and plenty of receipts. It even has all the original documents that came with the car from new and a second key. The car was 1 owner for most of its life, before sitting un-used for quite a few years, hence the low mileage. I believe it passed hands a couple of times before being picked up by someone who brought it back to life before passing it on to myself.
As I mentioned I have owned and daily driven the car for about the last year and a half, and it has been almost faultless the entire time, including through winter. The only issues I have had is a binding rear brake caliper, the power steering belt came loose, and the alternator belt came loose. All of these issues were easily rectified. All of the electrics work including the pop up headlights, the four wheel steering has no issues and the engine starts on the button every time. I get approx. 30mpg from my short journey to and from work every day, which I don’t feel is bad from a car of this age. The air con could probably do with a re-gas/service as it is not the best, but I prefer the sun roof anyway which works faultlessly, and has no rust around it! The car is by no means fast, but it definitely holds its own and the engine pulls strong all the way to the redline. The gearbox is effortless and makes no funny noises. The car definitely handles well compared to cars I have owned of a similar age, partly down to the four wheel steering and the modern tyres. The car had all belts changed by the previous owner at 64k miles, and has the service booked marked and sticker in the door seal from the garage to prove so.
The car has a few modifications, some done by myself and some by the previous owner, these include:
- 15’’ Calibre Vice Wheels with Advan Neova AD08R tyres with loads of tread left. These were bought brand new by me just over a year ago. The wheels are also still like new. I also have the originals that will come with the car, though these are not in great condition.
- Mintex rear discs and pads, again done about a year ago. (the car also comes with some new Mintex drilled and grooved front discs, they came with the car as spares but I have not had to use them yet due to the current ones being fine)
- Climair Front Wind Deflectors
- KYB front shocks & top mounts (these were fitted about a month ago to replace old worn out units)
- Coilover Sleeves (these were fitted by the previous owner and were sourced from America due to the higher popularity of this model over there. I am not normally an advocate of coilover sleeves, but due to limited parts available for this model and these ones actually riding ok, I chose to leave them on. The car runs pretty low at the moment, but can easily be raised by a significant amount. Current height is as low as I dare.
- Aftermarket Kenwood stereo head unit and MTX audio speaker’s front & back.
- New fitted carpet mats all round.
The car has been serviced twice since I have owned it with oil & filter, the last service being done as the same time as the shocks about a month ago. It does not burn oil or overheat, even in this crazy summer. It is a perfectly useable modern classic that turns heads & gets questions asked whether it goes. I have never seen another on the road since owning this one, and I doubt I will see many again. The car comes with the rare rubber dash mat, and also the complete tool box and original spare wheel in the boot, I have been told these are highly sought after.
Please bear in mind this car is approaching 30 years old and it is used daily so it does show its age in places, it is not a show car by any means but I believe you will be pleasantly surprised at the condition it is in when viewing it, just do not expect it to be flawless! There is no major rot or hidden horrors, just a good, honest, affordable, useable classic that looks like a bargain against crx’s and similar of that era. Parts are cheap and can be sourced easily, and it does not cost a lot to run. The only reason I am selling is to buy something more practical for the family, but I will honestly be sad to see it go.
Price - £4250. No P/X.
