Mercedes-Benz 1993 2.2 220E W124 M111 in Red Almadine/Maroon Automatic
Has MOT until Mid February 2019
Only 2 owners excluding myself since new in 1993
Full V5 in my name
Rare combo of the desirable M111 Engine with the W124 Chassis (thanks to mercedessl500 for pointing that out!) not many of these left on the roads according to HML.
Approximately 198,500 miles (going up daily slightly) however read on for the extensive history!
Prior to my ownership :
Prior to my owning it has had major work carried including receipts going back to 1996 and service stamps from the beginning (the majority from Mercedes Benz themselves), the history really is extraordinary, so much so that nearly every page in service book is stamped, including some of the additional brake and coolant pages.
To give you a very brief idea of recent or extensive work,
2005 partial Engine re build including Head Gasket
Catalyst replaced 2013
Also in 2013 it had nearly £4500 worth of parts replaced (inc labour) at 173,000 miles!
2014 both rear Shock Absorbers replaced
2016 Water Pump
2016 Oil+Filter
2017 Ball Joint front
There is nearly £20,000 worth of receipts in the service history!
Mechanical work during my ownership :
I have receipts for the other front Ball Joint, new Tyre and new Battery.
I decided to have a visual inspection at Mercedes Benz after purchasing with it being a 'classic'. The main notes of this were that the brakes/hoses were worn/slightly perished probably due to age - this may coincide with the brake light pad symbol intermittently popping on/off. Also the rear coil springs are getting on a bit - there is a small squeaking going over bumps.
I have noticed the rear caliper occasionally sticking causing binding/pressure drop in the pedal (I believe) however is only very intermittent at this time (happened twice under very heavy braking). Whilst I keep a regular check on the brakes as they are I would suggest the new owner make their own judgement as they may require some attention in the near future.
Appearance Outside :
The car I believe has been garaged for most its life and appears fairly solid especially visually from underneath however there is corrosion around the side jack areas under the sill covers which is a common problem, I have not been able to investigate further.
When I purchased it had some surface rust on the front wing which again is fairly common, I have used fiberglass and body filler, sanded, primed and sprayed the area as seen in the picture. You may also notice a number of small patches which have been sanded, rust treated, primed and sprayed, mainly on the drivers door and over the rear arches. These were done purely to slow the process down and minimise the spreading rather than for aesthetics, if i'm honest the colour I used was not a perfect match, however it does provide a nice base for a top coat! Otherwise it now only has a few bubbling patches again mainly on the arches.
There is a small chip in the windscreen - I have used a windscreen repair kit to patch the hole as it's only 5p size.
You may notice the wheels are black, these are only the wheel trims - they have been sanded and primed either ready for a silver coat or left as is if you prefer, they were previously scratched. The same applies for the badge!
Appearance Inside :
The interior is above good for the year, with the cream seats being very clean and cared for. The rears especially look barely sat on. The wooden center console and surround is again in very good condition with only a few thin cracks (which is rare).
It has an electric sunroof which works, front + rear arm rests, electric windows all round and a complete first aid kit which I can only believe is original (however out of date - just for show!).
Otherwise - Overall :
All the tyres have decent tread.
Levels regularly checked - holds oil and water well.
Also has the MB tool kit which I have cleaned up.
This all being said it is being listed in an overall spares or repairs condition as it does have the wear and tear you would expect for the age/mileage, it's not a silent car especially under more enthusiastic acceleration so the odd rattle or buzz can sometimes be heard from various parts if 'pushing it' - which is not often! However it does drive nicely for the year and its quality classic build.
Any questions please ask, I've listed it as honestly as possible however it is sold as seen/ as described.
I also have it listed elsewhere, cash on collection only.
Thanks for looking!
