Hello guys just stuck at the moment doing the lower arms ( wishbones) on the w124 Merc, but I looked at the ball joint and the slot where the pinch bolt goes through is facing the other way just wondering how could I get it to turn so the pinch bolt can go through,the ball joint is a pressed in one, all help appreciated on advance

The ball joint is new and not on the car yet but it's hard to spin, would it be safe to use a mole grip to spin it round or would it end up damaging it, or any other alternative ways thanks again

Hi, Place it in the vice with the stud upright, grip the stud lightly with the mole grips and apply a gentle rotation force, at the same time hold the stud and rock it backwards and forwards. That should break the resistance and it should turn. If your worried about bruising the stud put a couple of wraps of masking tape or duct tape first.

Sorry if this is a numpty suggestion as I’m not familiar with the MB suspension, but could you put a nut or two on the threaded bit to protect it before using the mole grips?

We all spend each day learning new things Clive so don't apologise, the ball joint has a pinch bolt to hold it in place, but I managed to move it using a 16mm open ended spanner as I put it on the slot of the shaft where the pinch bolt goes through and managed to turn it to the place I needed it, thanks again guys for the suggestions,
