I drove the green 65 Chevy today, only in the driveway- but it WILL DRIFT.. More coming soon. Stakeside? Not sure what that is?

The Chevy does in fact run and drive. It has weak brakes, there is a proportioning valve tool that I need to use. It prevents you from pushing air front to back when bleeding. It's on the way. I also need to bolt seats down- the guy brought me total junk out of who knows what. I'll make them work but it's going to take hours, power seats with big ugly brackets. After the seats are secured and the brakes are bled correctly, I'm also waiting on a power steering pulley & then I can tack weld the exhaust joints (they're clamped now)and actually road test it! Taking on a project that has been left to sit? I'll not do that again. From the very start of the project- it really needed 100% disassembly and an unlimited amount of time and money to do a full restoration. Lots of little things will not be done by me. I've got far too much time in it now. What I have done- and this is the good part- I took an abandoned truck and brought it back to life. It moves under it's own power and you can move it around the yard. Hopefully I will get the road test soon and it can go back to it's home, where Josh and his buddies can tackle things like finding the right headlight hardware to mount the lights (they've brought the wrong stuff 3 times)and tackling the dashboard wiring and controls- it needs everything replaced and installed, wired. It has a functional oil gauge and an ignition key. That's it. The windows roll up and down, the doors latch and open and close. It needs rubber seals on both doors. It needs the hardwood bed kit installed, but the fuel tank is under the bed and the tank needs a fuel sending unit in it- none of the two I've bought match the top aluminium thread tappings. So that needs locating before anyone should cover it up with a bed floor. Not to mention- that's a whole day project in itself, maybe more. It needs the full heating system controls and dashboard ducting installed. I have the heater core installed and one power wire to the fan. ON or OFF, that's all it's getting, by me. It needs all trim and mirrors. It needs the correct rear bumper brackets. Did I mention the engine that they brought to me-- Sure, it sounds wicked and runs great- It has a rear main oil seal leak, so it leaves a puddle on the floor. No carpet inside, only bare metal. Now- if there was an unlimited budget (and we may discuss the possibility of me doing a final odds and ends totally finished version of this truck)in the spring, but that is a conversation we've not yet had. I want it to run and drive, go down the road safely and reliably. Lights, fit and finish, total details with everything working? That is another story altogether.

I hear you on finishing other peoples projects; it sucks. Between dealing with the builders screw-ups and the curse word non- fitting parts that the resto vendors sell, it will drive you nuts. How do you bill for a door assembly that took 12 hours because every single rubber bit and most of the hardware that was supplied was not quite right, and the guy who did the tinwork never test fit anything with seals in place!? AND you have an owner who thinks pebble beach should be his next stop after collecting the riddler?

This is the perfect reflection of this project for sure. The owner is pretty cool about it, but it's still a big time eater.

This green truck, is ready to drive on the road, this week. I've been moving it around the yard and I feel like the brakes could be better, but the owner is picking it up this weekend. Lots more builds coming for this year, VERY excited to get going on them all!

I drove it!
I can say this with the utmost sincerity: IT IS FREAKING SCARY!!
I mean- it has a little soft brake pedal, but the power and noise of that engine- make it seem down right dangerous! It's steering gearbox allows it to wander in the lane, the doors rattle and air rushes in everywhere! The noise is deafening in the cab. I ran it through 1st.... 2nd... 3rd... fourth...
Then I didn't die or explode, so I slowed down and turned it around, pointed it back to the garage. The tires are BALD, skinny and very old. If you push on the throttle even a little bit too much- ZZZZZZZZZZZ is all you hear- no traction, far too much power! Wheelspin like crazy. I need to give it brake lights and finish up that passenger side sill.
It's a FAST, loose, noisy truck that will scare you.
Perfect.

Probably the last post on this topic. My buddy Josh and his friend came and picked it up the other day. They drove it home, 35 minutes no complaints. I was glad to see it go. I was also glad to hear he and his mum had a nice teary eyed cry over his deceased dad's truck. They know they've got work ahead, but I told them I would be here if they need me.

What..No Smoky burnout video! Honestly- with the rod type linkage on the old abused gearbox, the dodgy brakes and the horrible tyres- Not to mention the kid that drove it home, stalled it ten times before he left the driveway- and got it stuck in gear.
I had to send them away the first time they came to get it. The second time they returned to pick it up- he only stalled it 3 times. (mind you, I've driven it and turned it back to front several times in the driveway, you simply must keep the RPM's UP) No problem..
No way I was going to break it! If I did a showy burnout and something broke- I'd have to marry the darn thing!
They politely made it down the road and I was a nervous wreck until I got the text-- "We made it".
If it shows up again this summer and it's in better shape- I'll mash the pedal on it.
