Now that I’ve had the scimitar on the road for nearly a year, I’m always worried about parking it and theft. On a few occasions I’ve taken the steering wheel off and with me, as it’s an obvious and visible anti theft deterrent. There are lots of cheap slim quick release adaptors about. I have a boss, and thinking I could modify the original wheel to fit the boss, or maybe just find another wheel. So, the question is has anyone any experience on them? Do they work well, and re they a good fit?

I have an NRG slimline boss that I use on my DC2 and used on my Dolomite, no play at all in it and can't see any reason why it would be 'unsafe' as it locks into place with tabs. I'd recommend it 100% as a security measure, much better than a steering lock IMO.

Why??? My son runs one on his Landy for the same reason as above It's a good snug fit that clips securely in place and doesn't come off without releasing the latch. There's no additional play compared to a fixed wheel

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

Well apart from one dangerous, others seem to say ok😀. It does have power steering, so it’ll have less abuse and stress, for the price it’s worth a go. It spends a lot of time parked as it’s our back up car for when one of the others gives up. I want the slimline ones as I can’t afford to have the wheel out further than it is. The original wheel is quite flimsy at the boss side anyway, so to modify it to take a boss can only be an improvement.

I seem to hear of a lot of joy riders about recently, I’ve got the glow plug switch hidden well, and it won’t start cold, and having no wheel is a great idea.

The cheap Chinese slimline ones are garbage, just like the cheap Chinese steering wheels that you can bend in half with minimal effort.
Nothing wrong with a quality quick release boss like NRG.

Looks like I’ll have a look at the boss I have, work out my spacer requirement and buy a decent one then.

Buy one from the likes of Demon Tweeks or Rally Design that's designed for motorsport.

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

If you want the very best get a Works Bell rapfix 2, these are the original ones and made in Japan. Nrg copied their design and have them made in Taiwan, the Nrg ones are good though.
