This is not my truck.
I ran up to the gas station to get some beers last night after shoveling out the two feet of snow that pounded us for 30 hours.
As soon as I pulled in, I saw it! I nearly left our Ford Escape AWD in "D" and got out of it as quick as I could just to take pictures and hopefully talk to the guy about it!
Pics below, for some reason I can't attach them while I create a post, only when I reply to one.

This thing has no door glass and it was about -10c outside. Three guys were inside, they were just out for a joyride, maybe to pull someone out if they needed it.
It looks to be a Dodge Power Wagon, I'd say 1945-52 era. Not 100% sure on that one.
I told the guy it was "The coolest thing I'd seen in a couple years" and was it for sale?
He said sure, 15,000 usd. Ouch. I guess he doesn't want to sell it then, yeah?
So I can see it has Military axles under it and I wanted to hear it run. I was hoping to hear a diesel sound. But alas, it fired up instantly and sounded like a small block v8, modern engine. He said "It's got a 5.3L LS engine in it."
I said "Aw man, it should be a HEMI!" He said "No way, LS Swap The World Man" hahaha anyway, it was a five speed manual because I could hear the short shifting of the low down gearing as it drove away. Freaking cool, I thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing it.

I bet that doesn't get stuck in snow, lovely old beast. They looked well wrapped up, and if you think about it, there are no windows on a dog sleigh either!

Great looking truck, can you imagine if we got snow like that in the UK the country would grind to a halt!

Heck yeah! We see the southern states get 2-3 inches and the whole place goes crazy. They all crash off the road, no city plow trucks to handle the weather, ice causes all their tropical foliage to freeze- It's mayhem! They've never driven in it, most of them. We grew up driving in 12-24" of snow.
I was doing snow donuts behind the wheel before I was allowed to drive! I do have Finnish heritage, so maybe that's why I like to drive in the snow.. Or was it Irish and that's why I love to drink hahaha

Nice truck. I used to do snow donuts and general messing about in Germany with my 80s Toyota Cressida, in the town hall car park. I also used to drive the Beetle Cabriolet in -3 and no heaters. It certainly woke you up.

Love it. Absolutely love it. And I have no problem with that being on gas or fitted with an LS either. Even if it was electric it would still be ice cold cool.

Firstly, that's thing's rad - love the exo-cage although windows and a heater would be on my to-do list... but how the hell is there settled snow under the fuel station canopy??? Was there some sort of mad sideways blizzard? And isn't there enough stuff working away underground to keep things melted?

Well mylittletony, My guess is- I'm sure they have a heater blowing inside at least on their feet and maybe a defroster on the glass or it would ice over. It all goes out the side windows, but something is better than nothing. The snow around this part of the country does in fact blow in sideways, up down and every which way! It came down steadily and strong for over 24 hours with a a -10c temp and blowing strong winds. We got over two feet of snow in 30ish hours, with drifts as deep as 3 feet. Last night it was -4F which to you guys is -20c! When it's that cold, the ice melting liquids and the road salts do very little to clear the hard packed ice and snow on the concrete. As far as the underground gubbins keeping things warm, no way. In these states around here- everything has a minimum bury depth based on climate because when we get a lengthy cold spell, the concrete, the earth, the water- everything freezes up to three feet below the surface. So our underground water lines and sewers are at a 36" minimum bury depth. Very high end homes do have buried electrical cables that heat the pavement to keep it clear but that is very rare and only for the very wealthy business usually. We know how to protect ourselves during cold like this and generally are not outside for any longer than we have to be. You know, go get gas, run into the store for beer, let the dogs out etc. Our summers are so mild and so pretty that it makes it worth it. Last night I was doing four wheel drifts around a barrel behind an old factory, where we ride bmx bikes indoors. We learn to have fun in this stuff. I've got another post in the "Reader's Other Modifications" section about a snowmobile: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/207721/snowmobile-quad-project-thing

way ahead of you ;-) Interesting stuff about the depth of cold you get over there, I know you're more used to it and better prepared than here (not hard!) I've discovered I'm a warmer climate kinda person - I like the snow, but after a month or so I'm done and want heat again - 3-4 months of freezing temps ain't for me!
