After 2.5 years and less than a thousand miles it’s time to move it on.
I bought this as an 8v with 224k and although it ran well and has a fully stamped service book (yes really!) it leaked every fluid and the car was tired all over. At the time I was breaking our mk4 20vt with high miles, as it never gave us any trouble in nearly 2 years i was happy to put that engine in my mk2. I’d had that car mapped so it still has that map on it.
I’ll try to remember and list the full spec...
Bright blue metallic, desirable colour
MOT May (done 800 miles since)
ARZ me7.5 dbw de-immo’d
SAI, N249 deleted
Tach converter, all dials work
ECU lives under the dash with OBD port, easily accessible
02A 5 speed from a B4 passat, ridiculously short geared tbh so it’s not what you’d call slow. It pulls as hard in 5th as it does in 3rd
Solid front T mount
Corrado vr6 radiator
Fmic, relocated MAP sensor
Forge 007 recirc valve that has new seals and piston
Qpeng 2.5” downpipe and brand new 2.5” trackslag exhaust
Early vr6 280mm front brakes, all 4 calipers were resealed with new pistons, stainless front nipples, rear are titanium as biggred didn’t have stainless in stock!
Rear beam polybushed, as is the steering rack, all other bushes and bearings are new
Brand new AD08Rs up front, half worn A048s on the back
Cheap coilovers which are unseized and servicable but don’t do the car justice
Uprated twin relay headlight loom
Inside it has ultra violets, and the seats are excellent, I refurbed the drivers seat with a passenger donor so the bolsters are like new.
Nardi torino steering wheel
TIM volt, oil pressure and boost gauges, i can easily prove it has good oil pressure!
As they’re in the stereo slot, it has vibe front, inphase rear speakers, fed by a 4 channel amp, which gets it’s tunes from a 3.5mm to RCA cable, you use your phone/mp3 to control it
Headliner is pinned up as you’d expect!
No electric windows but does have working central locking.
So the outside is where it gets interesting. Not gonna lie, it’s a 20 feet car that’s pretty if you squint. It’s tatty, and has crusty bits. If you want a minter, pay more and look elsewhere.
The bonnet is black as a week after I finished it the bonnet came up at 75mph and destroyed it, also dented the roof which I’m assured will push out. Luckily it didn’t smash the brand new windscreen I’d just paid £140 for!
The bad bits then..
Clutch MC is weeping, it still works but the pedal isn’t returning fully
Rocker cover gasket is starting to leak
Starter motor is starting to die, pretty easy job on these though
Aux belt tensioner is getting squeaky, doesn’t help that it lives in the garage and gets started once every month or 2!
I did a huge reconstruction on the drivers floor, jacking point, inner and outer sill, but the passenger side and spare wheel well has a typical 90s bodge up. It’s still solid but I did what was needed to get an mot. I have pics of the work I did
There’ll be loads I’ve forgotten, i bought loads of service items when I built it, new coilpacks, gearbox oil etc etc
I’m in no rush to see the back of it but my missus wants a navara.
£3k absolutely no offers otherwise I’ll break it
