Looks like I might have to replace the oil pump on my Manta 16V which is a sump off job.
Because of the front crossmember this is an awkward job with the engine in situ, jacking the motor up and dropping the subframe can just about yield enough room to do it but access is still awkward.
Was thinking what are the legalities of cutting the crossmember, making a removable section below the engine?
This is the best picture I could find....
The steering rack bolts up to the holes in the front.
Plan would be to get some 5mm plate the same dimensions as underneath the crossmember, drill and bolt it a couple of places either side, between the steering rack and suspension bolts, and also within the section I want to be removable, this should keep everything square.
Then remove the plate, cut the middle section out, cap the open ends, get some plate to go over the top so when bolted back up the section effectively clamped from both sides.....
Or something along those lines.
Is cutting/modifying suspension parts like this an MOT no no?
