Best product to use to attach rear spoiler

Hello I need to attach a rear spoiler to a car and was wondering what's the best thing to use, I heard about 3m tape, silkaflax, tiger seal, master seal etc etc, so was wondering what will be a good product to use to give me the strongest bond, the spoiler in question is a AMG duck tail, so not one of those thin ones you see on some cars these days, all help is greatly appricated in advance thanks

It certainly does. I use it to affix solar panels and satellite dishes onto the roof of motorhomes.

In the late 90s, i fitted many a spoiler to Ford Focus' Fiestas etc. It was all the rage back then. If the spoiler had a large footprint area then I'd just bond it on with Sikaflex. The important bit was to key the mating surfaces properly before bonding.

So best to use some sand paper on the mating surfaces, does it have to be really rough or as long as it keyed up a bit it should be fine

I used to just key the paintwork with 600 / 800 grade wet n dry paper. Just enough to take the shine off. Most spoilers are made from PU or GRP. I'd key the back surface of the spoiler with a coarser grade. Then thoroughly clean / degrease both surfaces before bonding. Silaflex would ooze out around the edges and this needs to be wiped off before the stuff sets.

I never used tigerseal, but i think its very similar to Sikaflex.

Sikaflex is just a brand name. They make a million and one adhesives so you would need to be more specific.

Tiger seal is more technically known as PU adhesive sealer and can be had for cheaper than the brand name version of you look.

Sikaflex 221 I used to use, before I switched to Wurth. Both like a slightly better Tiger Seal. I always keyed the surfaces too.
