I have an Audi 80 cabriolet and I'm think of putting lower profile tyres on a spare set of wheels. The tyres are currently 195/60 15 I'm looking at putting 195/45 15.
Is this going to create a big problem?

Well other than lowering the gearing not really.

tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/This'll help see the gearing difference (it'll accelerate quicker, but be worse on the motorway...) It will also affect ground clearance and arch gap!

The bigger question is why you want to make the change?

Unless you're going lower it a lot it'll look a bit daft.

Unless you're going lower it a lot it'll look a bit daft. This. It will lower the car quite a bit. However, you could argue it can change the scrub radius to it having less, albeit slightly, so the car will behave differently. So it may be a little dartier etc. Personally, I'd stick with the 195/60s. If you want less, profile, go to a 17", where the prices are still sensible in that region. 16" for some reason isn't.

I like the look of the lower profile tyres and I also though it would the lower the car without having to mess with the springs.
I have recently bought a second set of audi 80 and thought I could see what the lower profile tyres would be like.

I have recently bought a second set of audi 80 and thought I could see what the lower profile tyres would be like. It will lower the car by the small amount lost from the sidewall. The effect is visually negated by the wheels looking smaller in the wheel arches however so really isn’t worth doing to ‘lower’ it.

Depends if youre doing it for 'the look' or not. Theres a boat load of technical reason to go for lower profile or reduce wheel size that most people ignore..

I just went from the standard 195/55R16 to 195/50R15 (approx. 1" overall diameter difference) on an R50 Mini Cooper, and immediately noticed improved acceleration, which makes for less 'boggy' pulling out of junctions, etc.
Car also feels more nippy and nimble, with less wheel weight to have to lug about.
The wheels fill the arches quite nicely still, however, I now have to take it slowly going over speed humps or ruts to avoid the dreaded scraping of various bits of bumper trim, etc.

Long story short I need bigger wheels to get lower profile tyres.

Long story short I need bigger wheels to get lower profile tyres. Thats about it, the aim is to keep the rolling diameter close to the same size.

Bear in mind that larger wheels with low-profile tyres generally give you a visual lift, it may look worse with bigger wheels if you aren't lowering to match

Hi-jacking the thread a little bit, its relevant... But i know there are sites that convert different axle gearings to road speed. And sites that convert different tyre size to road speed.
Anyone know of somewhere that can do both at the same time?
Say i changed my axle ratio and my tyre size from stock. I want to know how big the % difference is out, and adjust the tyre/wheel size to get back so my speedo is back to more accurate.
