1989 Toyota MR2 SOLD North London
I brought her a few years ago as a weekend motor with the view to restore her back to former glory over time. She drove so well I never got round to addressing her bodywork. And now with the ultra low emissions zone the time has come to look for something more modern or over 40yrs old (and is fun to drive in 20mph zones and over speed bumps).
This is a driver’s car with no power steering:
1600cc mid-engine, rear wheel drive, 5 speed gearbox, hardtop.
White (not super white – the only year not in super white), with black interior trim and black fabric seats. Original radio. Electric windows.
129937 miles (might go up slightly if the weather is good). I brought her on around 125000 miles in July 2014. I only use her during the summer.
Partial service history – original service logbook included showing she was first purchased brought by a Mr Jewitt from Datch Green Motors (Toyota) in April 1989. MOT until July 2020. Rust on rear wing will need to be addressed for her next MOT (repair panel included).
14”Oz rally racing wheels with Goodyear efficient grip performance tyres (around 1000 miles on them) – will also come with 5 original teardrop alloy wheels (with tyres).
Since I’ve had her, I’ve had:
Timing belt replaced.
Rear brake callipers replaced.
Wheel bearings replaced.
Exhaust backbox replaced.
Distributor replaced.
Improvements needed:
Rust (previous owner was a sailor and it was parked near the sea) – floor pan, front wings, n/s/f, n/s/r and o/s/r arches, a pillars (see pictures).
N/s/r and o/s/r track control arms bent (pulls to the left and a rubbing noise can be heard when turning right).
Bushes could do with being replaced.
Passenger side electric window button not working. Driver side buttons all work and control passenger window.
Driver side sun visor a bit stiff.
Speakers could do with replacing as they are original.
Before the ultra low emissions zone was a thing, I had planned to address all the bodywork and mechanical issues so with the car included in the price comes the following:
Three piece rear arch repair panels for both sides.
Driver side fibreglass front valance.
Passenger side front wing.
Two original rear mud flaps, white with silver detailing.
Decals for front and rear wings (charcoal).
She’s a great little car, super fun to drive and I’m very reluctant to let her go. Mk1 MR2’s are great driver's cars and bring a smile whenever you’re behind the wheel. Hopefully someone can provide a nice home and restore her back to full glory.
