Hi guys,
I'm a 1st time poster - I hope someone can help me with some information...
I'm picking up my first Mercedes 190 tomorrow and i'm hugely excited. Whilst I want to keep the retro styling, i'd like to make some subtle changes, starting with larger wheels and lowering.
The problem I have is - I know what I like but I have no clue when it comes to the technical side of things (I hope to learn as I go).
So, if anyone can offer me some advice as to how I might go about these initial changes, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Regarding wheels, 16'' are an ideal size, 7 or 8'' (ET34 from memory). As for suspension, you can't go wrong with Eibach or H&R springs along with Bilstein shocks. Most work well but B6's would be my choice. A world of info here: mercedes-190.co.uk

Easiest way to lower it and get a decent ride would be to buy some decent springs like Eibachs. On a 190E you can also cut the springs safely (i.e they won't fall out) and acheive a decent result. However, there is trial and error to how low you want to go ; they're a very low rate from the factory so you can end up chopping a load of coils off. Oh and another thing, get the proper tool to remove the springs ; the nuns and kittens stories of not using them is partially true as some of my friends know and have lived after having a spring going flying past them, even when using convential spring compressors. The problem is the springs are super long when uncompressed due to the low spring rate ; this is why they have so many coils to them. Think about it. A longer bit of metal is of a given thickness and strengh, the easier it is to flex . Thankfully, MrSpeedy has such a tool and I believe Bergen sell it for not alot of cash these days.

I fitted a set of lowered (allegedly) cosworth springs to my old 190e and it was low! Wheels were 17"AMG Monoblock reps. I also added a few bits of plastic from Reiger styling.
