Ok going to look at a Volvo Amazon 122s the end of the week. Bad part is it’s lhd and rough looking but solid as a rock underneath. Thing is I like these and am looking for inspiration and maybe advice. Owned one years ago and a nice car to drive and can be made to look pretty cool looking with time and effort. It’s a us import so will need to be registered over here which I’m told is easy to do with all the paperwork. Anyone registered an import and is it a simple task to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Modern alloys on classic cars don't always work but when someone gets it as right as this........

It’s a us import so will need to be registered over here which I’m told is easy to do with all the paperwork. Anyone registered an import and is it a simple task to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Dad imported a bike from the US a couple of years ago. To import a vehicle into the UK, you will need to get the DVLA to issue a NOVA (Notice of vehicle arrival) for it. This is required in order to generate a UK registration, and a v5 document. No NOVA= No V5 and no plates!! In order to issue a NOVA, the DVLA must be certain of the vehicles age (for registration, taxation class, and MOT testing reasons). This is normally straightforward if the documents are present from its home country- so in your case, the "title" would be required. So, If the title isn't present, Conclusively proving the vehicles age is what it boils down to. Now, I don't really know What provisions the DVLA make for this kind of thing, or if it would actually be easier to get a title issued in the US prior to Export. I wouldn't imagine that proving the age of your volvo would be too hard: The company still exist so you could tap them up for the factory records, albeit at a cost. You can see why this has been known in the past to result in a real ball-ache in the case of an old motorcycle or commercial vehicle (where engine/frame/ chassis numbers tend to get chopped and changed more readily), a modified classic, anything from a defunct manufacturer (quite a lot of classics then!), or a combination of the three!! I'm happy to be corrected on this by someone who's done it more often, but basically make sure prior to the sale that it comes with its "title", and you should be okay to go from there.

Thank you for the input, looked at it today and from a distance it looks as rough as hell but up close it’s got it own personality, someone has started to strip the paint and it’s a mess but rock solid underneath and only needs a few little repairs on the bodywork. Both doors at the front edge and one wing. Inside is a bit of a mess but some new seats and happy days. Outside I would just paint it Matt black lower it and put some alloy wheels on it and it would look good. Engine is clean and has a Webber carb on and looks fine, little bit of play in the steering but it’s box so can be adjusted. Any suggestions on wheel fitment would be good and where to get lowering springs from too.
